if the configurator will indeed go live in the next week or so, we'll all have our answers, but are there any clues out there as to the new pricing since the removed the 69 and 72k starting price from the website? hopefully it's lower. 1 to get more people into electric vehicles, 2 to compete with cybertruck, and 3 to put ice trucks on the ropes.

Starting price is still on the web site.
Rivian R1T R1S what's the new pricing? 1605024537708

This is still double the starting price of F-150 or Silverado 1500 crew cab pickups, so I do not think ICE trucks are on the ropes. Maybe the $40K Cybertruck will compete, if the price remains that low.

Since they have announced the starting price points I would imagine, if they want to increase their margins, that they will just up the price of the most popular Options. That could also be the reason they are holding off releasing the Configurator.

True, but isn't Rivian trying to compete in the the luxury truck space, at least initially?

They very much are. There was an article out a month or so ago that said Rivian was benchmarking their interior to the likes of Bentley and Lamborghini. And they’ve said since the beginning that the goal is to create a luxury adventure vehicle.

R1T will be against fully loaded ice trucks, but with a higher end interior.
It also sits between a midsized and full size "off road" trucks, and I think the price point shows it.
Bison ~50k
R1T ~70K [ without tax credit]
Raptor ~75k
I wonder about the CT since the 250mile, $40K version may be cutting it close for people who work with their truck. Also, looks like Tesla doesn't want to release any vehicle with less than 300 miles, if we take the MY and Elon's comments as a reference.

As in "a luxury I can't really afford"? I number myself among those that think that. But I do caution prospective buyers who think they are getting a "luxury" vehicle based on the price premium. The price premium is for the tech - not exotic woods and leather trim. Prospective buyers should familiarize themselves with the history of Tesla in this regard. You will find lots of grumbling from Tesla buyers who were quite disappointed in fit, finish and trim given that they had paid "luxury" prices.

Now don't get me wrong. The interior is, from what I can tell at this point, going to be very nice. But don't expect it to be like a Bently. Fit and finish we will see about. Most new car makers seem to have trouble with this at the outset (DeLorean, Tesla).

i'd like to have the "luxury" as another interior level. basic leather and materials are fine. not all of us can toss around 70k. and that's just to start. and frankly the interior of the rebelle rally truck does not meet lambo standards. also how many people are going to want to take their "lambo" interior out to the campsite and get it dirty... keep the super fancy stuff for the moneybags, and give us working types something we can afford. most of us don't need 1000hp, 1000 ft-lbs torque, 600 mile range, crushed antler fur interior with diamond studded door handles... this is where lordestowne motors may shine.

The primary market for trucks has nothing to do with "luxury". I was simply pointing out that expensive vehicles like Rivian and Hummer are not going to put a dent in the ICE truck market. The everyday pickup truck driver could care less about luxury, it is more about functionality and acquisition cost.

If the "starting price" is still going to be $69k, this would then rule out the small size battery as RJ has said that the $70k price tag will be for a mid battery nicely equipped R1T. I wonder if that battery option will be completely removed?

I would point out that while it is twice the price of the base F150, there are not a lot of base model F150s out there. With so many configurations (I think it is millions if not billions of combos) most of them get optioned up into the 50's at least.

For sure, but all we have to compare right now is "starting" price. I doubt there will be many starting price Rivians sold either, nor Cybertrucks, nor Hummer EVs.

Until we see the configurator with option prices, we do not know the top end of the price range.

exactly why i posed the question. if rivian could deliver at 50-55k, cloth or fake leather interior, navi and 400hp, 300 miles of range with quick charging... they'd kill ice trucks. then the sunroof, full self drive, "Bentley" quality interior, cooled seats, more hp, more range, etc can be higher models to compete with denali, escalade, etc levels... then they would dominate. cybertruck/hummer/lourdestown/ nikola, etc bye, bye!
