What are people running for Kayak holders?

The 2 different sets (8 total) I have don't fit, and the yakima jaylow are stupid priced. The OEM crossbars are too wide or too thick for the ones I have.

I have a decent generic/universal set and the Thule hull-a-port XT, neither fit.

Any suggestions? Or should I just strap direct to the rack?

How big? We used the Yakima Hully rollers and saddle for our tandem, I bolted into the rack. I still have it, selling for $40 if you want and can toss in the bolts. Or you can buy universal adapters to go with.

I picked up 3 sets of Jay Lows still in the boxes from an estate sale when we switched to singles, older but work great, and still have another set in decent condition. I'll pull them out tomorrow and see if they're worth selling. If not, I can mail them to you if you donate to a local charity.

They are smaller / basic kayaks, like 10-12 foot.

I would look on FB market place. I scored a set of NIB jaylows for $100.00... also, plenty of used ones in my area.

I just strapped them down, that worked fine. Also, that air compressor is clutch.

I can double stack my 14’ kayaks and strap them directly to the crossbars.

I pay a local kid a flat $20 per round trip. He holds onto the kayak with 1 arm and the crossbar with the other.

I use super old Yakima hully rollers, up on a DIY bed rack. I have sit on top kayaks that weight a ton, and often go kayaking with just my two small children so I have to be able to load and unload the kayaks solo. There's no way I'd be able to do that safely up onto the roof without the rollers - but it does mean I have to have the bed rack (which I made myself)
