This is what I saw on my phone. How could I have known there were more options to pick, if the invoice reflects the armor rockers being include? If there were different options, then it should have reflected that prior to checkout.

1. The invoice happened after you missed the option while ordering so I don't get your defense there. It also clearly shows on the invoice that you selected the 1 of 4 options without the armor but that's only clear if you saw there were options to start with because:
2. The company should update their webpage to split into two buying options or as "optional" as I noted so the page title doesn't show up on the invoice and confuse people as it did you

Like they said in the email, both sides made mistakes. Hopefully both of you learn and correct for the future as needed.

I'm not looking to argue beyond that, but wanted to try to help explain what I believe happened here since it was apparent on my phone as I circled.
Accidents happen, just own it instead of torpedoing a business that did try to help you and provided a product. I understand if you want to return it instead of paying another $230 for what you thought you were buying. Maybe they will ship you the armor for free if you politely explain how their website was confusing due to not highlighting the optionality of the armor or making two pages (one with and one without) instead of 4 model options for clarity. That is assuming the running boards are the same and the armor just bolts under.

To more specifically answer your question:
It says choose, then has 4 boxes, one with a red selected frame around it. That was your clue there were options.

Again, yes they should have updated their title or split into two webpages. Not fully your fault, but could have been avoided with a bit more due diligence.

Their site is screwed up. Going to the link I sent shows the description of what @BlackOpal wanted and the price that @BlackOpal paid in large letters. It’s reasonable for a consumer to see that, click add to cart, and see this:
Rivian R1T R1S WARNING!! EVBASE ISSUE 1746367378827-kg

The bold text still shows, “With Lower Rocker Armor Panels” and the smaller gray text below seems less important because it is far less prominent and I’d assume it was truncated.

If I go to Checkout I see this:
Rivian R1T R1S WARNING!! EVBASE ISSUE 1746367678128-3v

The description in bold is the same and the gray text underneath has changed from what was shown in the cart. I would’ve thought what @BlackOpal thought and I came here to defend EV Base.

What makes you assume I didn't politely explain this to them? I don't understand your invoice argument. A consumer has every right to rely on the accuracy of the merchant's invoice.

Also, how come you have not address the fact that they reneged on the refund? Are you going defend that as well?

From the look of it the pictures show what you're getting, not the description. That's not a great website design, and I can see how people mistake it but in the picture for the 500 something the rocker plates are not shown, but there are other selectable options that DO show the rocker panels.

I don't think anyone is at fault here completely, and both parties share blame.

Look at the first screen shot I included. If a consumer goes to that page and they see a description of what they want to buy as the largest text on the screen (other than the company logo) and the price they are willing to pay along with it, why would they even look at the far less prominent area to choose something else?

Look at the subsequent screen shots showing the same description text and price in the cart and at checkout.

EV Base needs to fix this. I think most consumers would find this deceptive.

It’s on the seller to ensure their website is up to date and all item descriptions, pricing are correct. Had @BlackOpal ordered 10 of these in an attempt to capitalize on EVBASE’s error, that would be a different story. In that situation I would shut down the buyer right away even if it means a bad review because they wouldn’t be acting in good faith.

Yes, they could have caught this by looking at the pricing, but not everyone compares all prices for all options when ordering. EVBASE should take the easiest path, which is to acknowledge the item descriptions is confusing, fix that, and ship a set of the rockers….

Hence the agreement between the parties for the refund in lieu of return. I hope they would update their website to prevent it from happening again.

Consumers should be able to rely on a vendor's word. Don't offer a solution then change your mind.

@BlackOpal was on a phone, which isn’t remotely unusual at this point in time. The pictures will be hard to see and the text description is prominent and specific with the price adjacent. Look a the 3 screen shots I included of browsing, item in cart, and item at checkout all showing the same description and price.

@BlackOpal was gracious enough to accept half the blame for EV Base’s poor site design.

At this point I would place 100% of the blame on EV Base because they still haven’t fixed it.

Just wanna add some 2 cents here if anybody noticed the same thing I did.

If you go to EVBase and search for rock sliders, there are several different options. Some options do and don't have panels but they all LOOK like and are the same products. I was confused at first but it is definitely a website error on their part.

Dude! Thank you! I was starting to feel victim shame. Looks like they still haven't fix the issue.
I don't think there is any reason to feel shame. People make mistakes. And it appears EVBASE has mistakes on their e-commerce site. To me it is obvious they need to fix the site, but they are not trying to take advantage of you.

II think the right solution is for you to pay for the difference and they ship you the panels with no shipping fee. You get what you wanted, and they are fairly compensated for the product they are selling. Or they let you return it at no cost to you if you think the cost isn't worth it.

II wonder why I see the drop down list? Is there an old page there they forgot to take down?

All of you who are victim shaming are ridiculous. The seller has an obligation to advertise and price a product accurately. Any confusion is always going to be the fault of the merchant. Something that is simple or clear to one may not be to others, so get off your high horses and stop living in your little bubbles.

In my past I worked with weights and measures quite a bit, and ultimately it didn't even matter if the merchant had good intentions, if a label / advertisement / title or price was unclear for a reasonable person, the merchant has to honor the reasonable interpretation (in good faith) or be fined substantially.

I would rather return it. They offered a solution, then reneged on the refund. I think that's the bigger issue. It's a character flaw. I feel like that message is getting lost in this thread.

The right thing is for them to ship him the remaining parts free. Even a refund is unsatisfactory. This should prompt them to immediately update the site to fix the problem. Until it's fixed, they should be honoring it to everyone who buys it with the same messages. Otherwise they continue to have confusing language. Intent doesn't matter.

Why can't this be about coming to a reasonable agreement between the buyer and seller? Why does somebody have to try to screw the other person in order to get some advantage? They made a mistake, so why penalize them or try to screw them over because of it?

The right thing to do is come to a reasonable agreement since it is obvious the panels cost more than just the running boards alone. Once the mistake is realized, the buyer and seller should take reasonable actions to make it right. That is how an honest relationship works in a civil society.
