I’m putting this warning out to everyone who’s considering purchasing anything from @EVBASE. Especially their running boards! They do not honor their return/refund policy (specifically when it comes to damage) and will do everything they can to avoid you wanting to send the product back.

I got a fantastic deal on a set of running boards from them and was pretty excited to receive them. The shipping actually was pretty fast; they arrived within about a week. But unfortunately when they arrived at my door the box was torn open on both ends and one of the running boards was actually exposed (you could see it sticking out of the box). My blame is 50/50 UPS & EVBase. UPS definitely didn’t treat the package very nicely in transit but also EVBase’s packaging was absolutely horrible. Very thin cardboard, almost no padding, etc.

So all of this resulted in the running boards being damaged (scrapes and scratches) and one board was actually very slightly bent in the middle so it took a big hit somewhere along the way.

Now to get to my disastrous customer service experience. I won’t go through every single back and forth email that I had with EVBase (total of 13) but I will just summarize the experience (sorry in advance for the long summary).

I reached out asking to return my running boards due to them being damaged in transit. Directly from their website: “We offer a 100% money-back guarantee if you return the defective item within 30 days. Please note that any object must meet our conditions to meet the return criteria. Please visit our return policy page for a better understanding.”

After a few back and forth emails with them asking for photos of the damage, me sending the photos, them acknowledging the damage, etc. This is the response I received from EVBASE: “Thanks for your pictures, Maybe you can try spraying paint on it. Sand the scratched area and spray-paint it by yourself. Spray once and then spray again after it dries, two or three times in a row.

Don't make it too thick every time.

We can give you $70 as compensation, is this acceptable?”

Yes that’s right… they asked me to go buy some spray paint myself and repair the damage… oh and how about we give you $70 off? My response was repeatedly, “No absolutely not, that’s ridiculous I want to return the product under your return policy that’s stated on your website!”

After many back and forth emails they ultimately did not ever offer for me to return the running boards. They just keep slowly increasing the “compensation”. For some people receiving some money back for damages would have been totally fine. But in my particular case after having them ask me to go buy some spray paint… I wanted to return them just on principle alone (I did not want to support the company any longer). Ultimately I did receive my money back via a credit card dispute but my advice… they are cheap for a reason. Don’t take the chance of having to deal with their customer service over any sort of issues!

Yeah, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't buy running boards from a company that's not a member in good standing here. The manufacturers we have that are site sponsors are accountable to the members here, and you can see how many fellow owners are happy with their purchases.

Good example was that carbon fiber mud flap guy who got run off the forum after failing to deliver. Don't have to worry about buying those now.

I believe EVBase is a site sponsor, so that’s not a good look. It would be one thing if you tried to install them and they got damaged, but as a business you just have to do the right thing in that situation and suck it up. Try to get it back from UPS and improve your packaging.

I don't think GOAT is a sponsor, and they make a fantastic option. After looking over the other options, that was the only one for me. Super solid, and very easy installation. A couple of the others have really ridiculous installation requirements.

I read the messages you posted. So this tells me that EVbase is a Chinese-run company. This is nearly word for word what I get every time I get a defective Chinese product and they don't want me to return it. Like there's one single translation that they all use. One comical one was a set of headlights for a Jeep, that were poorly packaged and crushed the non-replaceable input wires. They wanted me to keep them for a few bucks off. Did I mention...crushed non-replaceable wires?

For anyone who cares, GOAT is a US company, and the owner is accessible by phone and email. He actually answers calls and will talk about the product.

Sorry OP about the experience!!

Kudos to companies that actually have a phone that is answered in the USA by someone with the company like GOAT. I always look at the About Us or Who Are We page on websites and see most don't even list names or detailed information. Once again, sorry OP about your experience!

Regardless, I'm not sure adding third-party running boards is needed or wise with Rivian products. Mounting can lead to service issues down the road, so to speak. Based on your information, it certainly seems reasonable for a return to be acceptable. Drive well.

The Electruck4x4 Megawatt sliders as well.

EVBase just.... doesn't act consistent with cultural norms. They are also the company that threatened Branden Flasch for his review of their running boards.

The Megawatt sliders are really, really nice. Mine still look new. They came properly packaged and shipped via truck freight due to weight and size. They fit perfectly and the kick-out complements the design of the truck (and is functional if you ever want to go off road).

This 100%. I was amazed how beefy the packaging was when my Megawatts showed up. Great install directions available and install went well. Week after I installed them I really put them to the test on the trail and other than scraping some of the powdercoat off (expected), they were totally unscathed. The kickout is the biggest reason I went with theirs over some of their competitors...you can tell they knew what they were doing for off-roaders.

Sorry about your experience, OP.

That is definitely poor customer service.

I have the EVbase boards and have had no issues during package delivery or after. But I understand that your experience has essentially turned you off from all their offerings.

I had a similar and horrible experience with EVBASE. When they came out with their crossbars, I bought a set. At the time the website didn’t have a distinction between the R1S and the R1T in the order process. They had a picture of the rear bars which is what I wanted. They sent me bars that were too small to fit on the rear.

when I wrote them they offered me a few bucks to keep the item. I wanted bars for the rear. They kept telling me I ordered the wrong item but that’s not true. They stopped responding to me until I reviewed them. (1 star). Then they responded indicating they would send me a shipping label to pay for the return shipping. Instead, they sent the return address. I sent the bars back and sent a copy of the shipping receipt to recoup my costs. Now they are refusing to pay the costs.

This group is TERRIBLE! BE WARNED they are dishonest and I will never buy anything from them again. Their customer service is nonexistent and pathetic. I will spend my money elsewhere and I recommend that you do the same.

Thanks for the PSA and it sounds like EVBase is a small enough operation that they can't really afford the hit in margins by having to deal with returns which suggests their return policy is just lip service.

That is a really bad look. I would have asked for a refund on principal alone if they told me to spray paint my boards. So I don't blame you there.

Hopefully they see this thread and respond.
