V2H ?

Seem to remember there was a rumour last year that Rivian would add V2H as a function in, ‘the near future’.

Has anyone heard of any progress/likelihood to this?

Not a rumor - it was straight up announced at Rivian's investor day last year, just after gen 2 launch.

Every R1 is capable of doing it. IIRC it does it with DC output and an external inverter (like lightning).

R2 will use an internal inverter to output AC directly.

No idea on timeline though

It would need pretty expensive new charger that could do that. Then rewiring house panel to accept this as well.

Future vehicles will be able to just output 240v AC from ports, so not sure this will be compatible with future vehicles.

I just don't see why many people would go to the expense to set this up if the above is true. Currently can just use 120v outlets if needed.

If Rivian does activate that V2H I'll be curious to hear exactly how it works. As it's such a tiny user base it wouldn't surprise me if they never end up implementing it though.

$20k for a gas generator is only if you want a full house automatic standby generator. You can get by with a $1k transfer switch and a $1k generator and be fine.

I used the Rivian to power fridge and a number of devices in an outage worked fine.

I have a generator if it was longer. Was hundreds for the generator - not 20k.

I don't understand why people want to spend $6500 on a bidirectional EV charger plus that amount again for install/panel changes just to degrade their $100k+ vehicle battery.

Plenty of cheap generator or if more frequent outages inverter and lifepo battery options.

Now I do wish the Rivian had 240v outlet.... Sounds like future models will. Put in a couple hundred dollar interlock kit in your panel and $900 generator from Costco and future EV will be able to use that too.

Agreed, during the height of Summer we often get brownouts. Sometimes due to demand, sometimes due to inclement weather & the risk of wildfires.
Asking the question simply as trying to work out the logistics & timing, of whether to add powerwall batteries to our existing solar, so that our home can continue unaffected when this Summer’s brownouts happen.

Exactly, but at least for the time being the Tesla website suggests a federal rebate of nearly half the cost.
