Trailer hitch plug adapter

I was struggling to find 7 pin to 4 pin adapter for the R1S. I have a bike rack lighting system that was the 4 pin style so I needed something like this. I found this one on Amazon for like $12. I wanted the flex cord since it will solve for the fact that my bike rack wiring probably wouldn’t reach way down to the R1S plug area.

I've never seen a flex cord adapter like that.
Most every auto/RV centre will have the adapter and the 4 prong extensions come in multiple lengths, or you could just solder it yourself.
Me; I'd probably hard wire the whole setup to your bike rack if that is the case, minus the adapter. Then use the stand alone round to flat adapter.

Did that cable work with tow mode? Did it turn on tow mode automatically, or did you have to turn it on manually?

It won't turn on the tow drive mode but it will trigger the trailer detection, which unfortunately means if your bike rack has tail lights, you don't get Driver+, Adaptive Cruise, blind spot warnings, cross traffic warnings, emergency braking, etc., etc... Honestly pretty much at the top of my "WTF Rivian?" list. The "Rear Accessory" toggle should enable all of the above.

Just worked for me ?‍ No action needed in the truck.

It could be a cable or connection issue. I'm just using a flat-4 adapter from UHaul.

I looked at Uhaul’s website for options, but opted for this one on Amazon https://a.co/d/0FTx4IR . I won’t be able to advise if it works anytime soon, so curious about others’ experiences.

I found that I have to hold the cover wide open, when inserting the 7-pin adapter, or it hangs up and doesn't fully insert.

IDK if you've noticed, but there is a raised ridge on the trailer connector and a tab on the backside of the cover. The tab needs to be out of the way to insert the connector in all the way and then rests behind the ridge of the trailer connector. The design is meant to keep the plug in fully while driving down the road. Once I noticed the tab on the cover and saw how it locked in I now know how far I have to hold the cover back when plugging in.

I have been using this one. Has both 4 and 5 pin connectors.

It likely senses using the ground somehow. Most brake controllers use the trailer brake loop but the rivian probably needs to sense surge (boat) trailers as well.
