I own a LE R1T that has been fantastic. Love this truck! So much so that my wife wants a R2 next year.
my question is.
currently my truck is worth $50,000 trade in value. I can purchase a gen 2 R1S max pack for $70,000. A $20,000 bump for me isn’t bad. I really do need the extra range because we do a lot of towing (snowmobiles in the winter and boat in the summer). It would be great to get the little bit of extra range and to have room to bring extra kids home from soccer is a plus.
wanted to see if anyone has done this and if they are pleased or disappointed. Also do you miss the gear tunnel and room of the bed of the truck?
thx a bunch!!!

I did this, but I got a tri instead of a dual R1S. I needed the extra room in the cab because my son was getting bigger, and I have two large dogs. My dad lives an hour and a half away, so when we went to visit, it was difficult to get everyone in the car. The only thing I miss from my T was the Meridian sound, but the new sound is still decent.

The max pack extra range comes in handy. I don't tow much, but even on road trips, that extra 60-70 miles of range takes out at least one charge stop in a 1K mile trip and keeps all other stops in the sweet spot of 15ish% to 70ish%. You can get a hitch-mounted carrier for dirty or smelly items, like my diesel can for my tractor. Other than that I didn't need a truck bed much and it sat mostly empty and the R1S cargo area is actually bigger than the truck bed was so for larger items, assuming they aren't dirty or smelly, it's better to haul with that.

Regardless, I have a 7'X16' enclosed trailer, so that's the way I'd move stuff if I needed.

I’m a leap of faith purchaser so not an apples to apples comparison
I’m also not sold (yet) on the G2 options downgrade to match G1 quad cost
IMHO I would keep the RT and try to get the RS to own and compare
Then trade least liked for the R2

I have both, but in reverse, a Tri Max T and a LE R1S. Honestly, if I were you, given the relatively modest gains for the max pack from the LE Large, especially if you want/get 20” wheels for a smoother ride, I would hold onto your truck and get the R2 with a max pack instead. Unless you have 3 kids like me and actually need the size of the S, then go for it! But the truck is great and I would personally miss it. If we had 2 kids I would have a T and an R2 instead.

Where are you getting a Gen2 R1S with Max pack for $70k? If those deals are real let me know. I’ve got a minivan I’m trying to get rid of….

He didn’t say a new one and they have been out for nearly 2 years for the S Gen2.

I'd do it IF it's "only" 20k difference. But, where in the world are you getting a new G2 R1S for $70k?
Oh sorry. I meant new to me. It is a used 2025. I would like a tri but that is a dual max I am looking at.

Thx for the info. I was thinking of changing to 20” road tires to get better efficiency

It's a good deal-not great but good. You'd also have to make sure it's as solid as your R1T. That's my only issue with letting go of something solid for something new but not sure if it's solid. How many times have you actually needed an R1S in the past year?

I can be your spirit guide here.

Had a G1 R1T, loved it. Decided to go G2 because reasons. Went with an S. It was awesome in every possible way.

But - Immediately regretted not having a truck.

Traded the S for a G2 R1T and very happy again.

If you're a truck person, keep a truck. If you're ambivalent about truckiness, the S is excellent.

Thx. That is the hardest part. I think I want the truck. Especially if my wife gets a R2. So we can’t take extra kids with us. Who cares. We have 2 boys in lots of sports. It will just be the two of them. I am ok with that.

Just to be clear-the "extra kids" are not yours but your kids friends? So, you're contemplating all this for your kids friends? If that's the case, it's very nice of you but I'd keep the R1T and get a R2.
