Not that I would consider this a competitor even if it ever came to the US, but interesting to see that Toyota has made an EV Hilux.

Exists only because of competition from China, eroding Toyota’s market dominance. Anyone following the auto industry knows Toyota’s half hearted position on EVs. And that position is reflected in the equally half hearted EVs they make. And those who buy them aren’t getting their money’s worth.

I didn’t watch the entire video. Is this a full EV or a ICE/EV combo? I think they said it only had a 59 kWh battery. If it is a full EV and lets say a best case efficiency of 3 mi/kWh you’re looking at only ~ 120 miles of usable range (max would be < 180 miles). Maybe adequate for use on and around the farm, but hardly practical for any longer adventures.

That’s how Toyota makes EVs. Poor specs so that fewer people will buy them and then they can say, see no one wants EVs. No, no one who knows EVs wants your EVs (Man, that was a word salad.)

Unfortunately the general population is duped by these brands. When surveyed they say Toyota and Honda make the best EVs (see below), which they don’t. Toyota has improved marginally with range, but their charging speeds still suck (150kW) and Honda had a decent EV, but it was really a GM underneath and now they discontinued it.
