It's just funny that they could have done a, what, 5% increase to existing pre-orders and very few people would have bailed. They lost a LOT of money with the way they handled all of this.
Shhhh, don't give them any ideas :)

lol same thoughts in my household. “What a steal"! To be honest we didn't even realize how good of a deal it was until we started shopping other options yesterday. It was way more than we have paid for a vehicle so we weren't familiar with competition in the >70k vehicle tier. Definitely feel more committed to the purchase than 48 hours ago.
Me too. My wife was on the fence and never actually committed to buying the R1S. But once this happened, all of a sudden it was “so when are we getting it?” Before I was alway super careful to be noncommittal about it and talked about it in theory to not scare her away from it. Now, the purchase changed to a fore gone conclusion. Super excited about it now and glad this inadvertently changed my wives mind.

I went through the reconfigure process and was able to get the price back down close to the original price. when news of the retreat came out my wife felt more committed to buy but she also said “Do we really need all those other items?”
Yes dear.

Y'all's wives are nicer than mine. When I told my wife what happened she said that Rivian was too nice and should have told the people who cancelled should have to pay more and everyone who burned their letters should be banned from buying one.

But also that now we had to get it.

A lot of that depends on your expected delivery date. If you’re expecting 2022 delivery, then I say go for what’s available today vs. waiting or new tech. Otherwise you’ll always be waiting on new tech. If you’re 1-2 yrs out, sit on your reservation and make a game time decision when you’re called up.
We talking about the truck or his wife, regarding the prenup? ?

And here I am, wondering if I should get a pre-emptive restraining order for when I finally tell my wife that I have one reserved. :oops:

YES I agree 100%. I would also add that if you bought Rivian pre IPO as an investor, another bump up in delivery time is in order.

How is your delivery window so late with such an early pre-order? Do you have some funky config? I pre-ordered in September 2021 and my window is December 22. Let me guess... Max Pack?

Okay, so if you were in line at a restaurant and the board was changed and the entrees were increased by 25 % . You got out of the line and walked away then over the intercom they announced that it was a mistake and they were selling the entrees for same price. Would you be able to cut in line to get your place back?

‘But we are not at a fast food restaurant. Your place in line is not managed by customers. It is managed by Rivian. And the whole reason they said it was a mistake was to get people back. As they correctly assessed the way to get them back is to restore the conditions they were in before. It does not serve Rivian’s goal to send folks whose ”action” made a difference to back of the line because the line will get much shorter than they like. The only difference saying you want to screw over the people that saved you $15K-$20K does is how they view you.
