I tend to keep any interaction with people to a minimum EXCEPT on social media. To answer why I'd need therapy and that's just not going to happen. At least not till they put an AI therapist into a box without internet connectivity.

Anyways in real life I disengage as soon quickly as possible.

I would have assumed he'd move as soon as he acknowledged that RV spots are open.

I've been to that the RAN station and its pretty obvious that the trailer spot is for EV charging for someone towing. There just isn't anything debatable about it.

If his Sprinter was a Standard 144" high roof like mine than I'm surprised by why he needed an RV spot.

Actually, very pragmatic instead.
Not a matter of being sad, or being happy. It is rather a matter about not giving a damn about things that do not impact me in any way. That outlook in life actually places me in a very relaxed, happy world.

Mind your own damn business!
Part of the reason so many assholes are running around these days is people aren’t willing to call them out on it. The way I see it is I would rather that guy try to get mouthy with me than the cashier who double scans his item accidentally. People who are like this usually are worse to those they feel they can intimidate, they need a reality check and it’s up to all those capable to do so should the opportunity present itself.

I’m not saying to run around looking for an excuse to yell at people, that makes YOU the asshole. OP here was telling the guy something nice and he blew up. I would have been a lot less nice about it than OP was.

Parenting classes too. Certainly did not set a good example for his kid (if that IS his kid... van... kid... who knows). /s
I was thinking the same thing. With that type of mentor, chances are the child will adopt the same disposition.

But there is a chance the child will recognize the absence of maturity in the that parental unit and choose an alternate path. 🤞

It’s rare that I ever run in to a person ICEing a charger while they’re at their vehicle.

The few times I have, I’ve very politely mentioned that these are for electric vehicles to charge, don’t demand they move (and only even ask if all other stalls are full.)

Today at a RAN, a Sprinter camper van (NOT EV) was parked in the trailer stall. This is at Lincoln City, Oregon, where the trailer stall is at the end of a row of “RVs and vehicles with trailers” extra long parking stalls. Only the end one is RAN, the other RAN are in normal length stalls around a corner.

As I plugged in, a man and small kid approached the Sprinter. Figuring they were leaving. I didn’t bother even mentioning.

A couple minutes later, they got out and started to walk away. So I politely said something. He immediately went “all the other RV spots were full when I arrived:” And he started walking back to his van “I see they’re open now,”

“I get it, lots of people use the RV spots when they’re not supposed to. I’m just letting you know for next time,” and I started to walk away.

He then continued to rant about the parking lot having been full when he arrived, and how I’m using an RV spot. (I wasn’t. I was in one of the short RAN.)

So I calmly explained that they were charging stalls, and the one he was in was for vehicles towing.

He started ranting more; so I decided to disengage.

“You must be an Oregonian!” - officially the strangest “insult” I’ve ever gotten. (Note; yes I am, and this charger is located at least 2.5 hours away from any other state.)

“Uh, better than being whatever asshole state you’re from, I’m just going to head over to security now,”

“Fine, I’ll have ‘em tow you, too!” (I’m not sure why security would tow me,)

Walked away, security office was about 30’ away. Knocked. Guy started yelling something I ignored. Security went and had a 10+ minute chat with him and he left. I waited until Sprinter was gone to head back, thanked the security guy, who replied “yeah, I don’t know what that guy’s problem was.”
Sorry you had to experience that! The Spring Break traffic has been very heavy here all along the coast, especially with the extra nice days we had Monday and Tuesday. It seems like some people are totally oblivious there are EV charging stations even when they clearly marked.

But I have never heard the remark "You must be an Oregonian!" Where was he from?

Not sure, he was backed in, and had no front license plate. Yeah, first time I've ever heard someone attempt to "insult" someone by calling them a resident of the state you're currently in!

Yep, standard "camper conversion" Sprinter - could have parked in a normal parking spot just fine.

(Picture taken from safely away while letting mall security de-escalate and tell him off. You can see the "Rivian vehicle charging only" sign directly behind him.)

Next time just point out all the space in front of the supercharger spots on the other part of the lot. :p
On the charge before heading home, a Model X pulled into the trailer RAN stall. I politely mentioned that this RAN wasn’t open to other EVs yet, but the Tesla chargers are right over there.

“Yeah, I just got done charging.”

“Oh… This spot is for people towing trailers to charge.”

“Are you towing?”

“I’m about to come back with my trailer, yes.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll move when you get back.”

(I did not return with my trailer; not wanting tit risk that spot being full again. I just charged to the minimum I needed to get home with very little leeway. Ended up having to top off at Clackamas RAN.)
