I drove by this going eastbound and after the fire was out. I have to think that, if it were the car battery, the car would have been engulfed.

The number of fire personnel present was impressive.

I agree, this likely wasn't a issue with the main or low voltage batteries. Its a damn shame.

This looks to me like it would be something in the back seat or in the gear tunnel based on my experience. Thermal runaway in the high voltage system looks way worse than that as far as smoke, flames, and damage.

From what I have been told and observed over the years, light smoke is natural material, dark smoke is manmade material. If that's true and it's smoke (not steam) in the picture, then it's something in the bed burning like hay, grass, etc. Aerobic spontaneous combustion?

Also slightly odd is that there appears to be a sunshield inside the windshield?
