I don't think that ever happens, as they probably are not allowed to. Can you imagine pulling up next to someone at a light, with that flood light pointing directly at your face?

Don't have to imagine, experienced that just the other day with a Jeep riding around town that had his full light bar blaring in my eyes in the middle of the day. Not pleasant!

This feels like a "we need to push this stuff out before labor day" update, not fully fleshed out but serviceable. I'm hoping they intend on making things more configurable down the line, but I'm not confident about that. Leveling is great, but I'd also like to see being able to increase or decrease the vehicle height once level is achieved. I get why they want the vehicle to be unplugged, but I hope they can eventually eliminate that requirement and that it's not strictly for regulatory reasons.

It would also be cool to have a vehicle level display while in off-road situations. My friends Subaru has that, not sure how useful it really is but still cool to have.

My F150 has similar lights on the mirrors that you can turn on individually. They will automatically turn off after reaching speeds over like 5mph or something like that. They also work with mirrors open or folded in. They do come in handy. They help to see addresses on curbs at night as well (if you drive slow enough).

I believe you. It must be very selectively enforced based on all the folks I know who drive around here every day with uncovered light bars on their grills or cab tops (turned off of course). I've never met a single person who has ever even been questioned about it.

yessir! Now if only they will let you us turn them on while driving...would be great ditch lights, i would think.

I was messing around with the light settings, doing some night driving and found the low, side lighting when brights kicked on to be excellent.

Ah yes, excellent point on the WiFi hotspot. In my last trip I was leaving the PD from fully closing so it would stay on for at least a longer period.

Side question about Wi-Fi & Hotspot. I was messing around with wi-fi and hotspot at my house. The truck barely picked up the 2.4ghz signal and not my 5ghz. Showed full bars on my phone. Is the wi-fi antenna on the truck super weak? I then turned on the Hotspot setting on my phone with full 5G bars and refreshed the wi-fi on the truck - nowhere to be found. Also, how does the hotspot work - do you have to have wireless carrier dedicated to the truck? I use Google Fi (love it), but when I turned on Hotspot on the truck, the RIV-xxxx signal was nowhere to be found.

Not required in Utah either. Use them on our Jeep on desolate roads and they turn night to day! Has prevented us from hitting several deer.

That is almost the exact scenario I was thinking about. Driving on some country or mountain road and being able to see a deer or antelope that is about to jump right in front of me. I've had quite a few of those pucker up moments in my life

Ha! those sneaky bastards we speculated a long time ago that those were flood lights in the mirrors and I had multiple people tell me no.

"Surprise! Your R1 now has flood lights. These lights are located on the front of each side view mirror and can be controlled individually. They also work with the mirrors folded in. That means if you’re parked parallel to your campsite, you can choose to fold in the mirrors and illuminate the side of your campground without having to point your R1 directly at it."

As a member of a Search and Rescue team, having a selectable floodlight while driving would be very helpful.

I agree if it pointed to the side. As long as the mirrors are in driving position those lights are mostly forward and slightly outward. But you are probably right and they aren’t allowed. Although a case could be made these lights are no different than fog lights or a light bar.

I seem to recall some versions of the Toyota FJ Cruiser had round lights on the side mirrors. I think they were white but they were pretty dim IIRC.

I would love to see how bright the R1 floodlights are. It would be great if they could be used while in off-road and not on a paved road per navigation.

I can see them being tied to a drive mode and speed threshold maybe?
