Has anyone traded in a vehicle for their R1T? Was The valuation fair from Rivian? I have a mint 2017 Escalade I am trading in and KBB shows a trade in value range of $36k-$41k with the mileage I have. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Rivian low-balled me HARD on my 2019 Volvo XC60. Spent a few minutes getting offers from the usual suspects and everyone was $10-15k higher than Rivian. I ended up driving to CarMax and selling to them. They weren't the highest offer, but they gave a check on the spot.

Go ahead an see what Rivian will give you - it doesn't cost anything to get a quote and they're pretty quick about it.

In my case, they clearly didn't want my trade-in because they offered me about 1/5 of the KBB value. If they had even come somewhat near I would have accepted the offer simply because it would have been easier and quicker to trade it in rather than sell it on my own.

It was pretty low. Got a lot more just selling it private party. You pay a penalty for the easy transaction with Rivian. If you have plenty of money and want the convenience of them taking your vehicle when they deliver your truck then it is OK. But if you want fair value for your vehicle check with CarMax or others.

I recently had to sell a Mercedes outside of a trade in and tried not only the usual suspects of Carvana, Carmax, etc but also went to the MB dealer near me. Got good offers from all but ended up getting the best offer from a Nissan dealer of all places, by several thousand. Worth checking with as many options as possible if you have the flexibility and time.

Edit: I will also say they cut me a check next day after agreeing on price

I’m one of the rare cases where Rivian unexpectedly offered the same, if not more than Carvana, Vroom, driveway, and the Volvo dealership where we purchased our current car new. It’s a 2018 Volvo V90 T5 inscription (station wagon) with about ~40k miles. It’s a fairly rare car with less than 1,500 examples imported to the US between 2017-2020 before being discontinued. For reference they sold over 130k Volvo XC90s (SUV version of the same basic vehicle) during the same window. I think its rarity made it difficult for dealerships to come up with a value. I’m in California where there’s no tax incentive to trading in at the point of purchase.

We’re waiting for our truck to clear the PDI at which point we’ll trade in the Volvo to Rivian. The delivery process has been dragging a bit, I think we’re on week 5 or 6 since being assigned a VIN. I believe the trade in value was locked in at the beginning of the process so if things end up taking a bit longer…and used car prices continue to drop…that will be one more positive to using Rivian.

I am trading in a 2016 Acura RDX with 125k miles. Its nothing special, but has been functional and reliable. Rivian's offer is pretty much what Kbb said its worth, about $13k. Rivian does say if you put more than 3000 miles on the car since you get an offer, they may change the offer. I added a couple hundred miles to my odometer reading just in case I put more miles on it. That being said, for me, it should only be about 2 weeks from the trade in offer (or starting 8 steps) to actually trading it in.

I also got 5k more on trade than others offered. And I only had to pay the sales tax on the difference. Woohoo. They honestly offered me more than I could have ever hope for. I had a Hyundai Santa Cruz and they gave me 43k. It was 4 months old. I didn’t lose a single penny on the vehicle.

Ahh…good to know there is a mileage limit. It’d take me several months to add 3k miles…I hope it doesn’t take that long!

Were you test-driving a Nissan or something? I am just curious why you went to a Nissan dealer to get a quote on a MB.

I just went to a bunch of the local car dealers. Nissan just happened to be on the same street as a couple others so I stopped in and asked if they were interested in purchasing a used vehicle. They took the VIN and my info and called me later that afternoon with an offer. I stopped at 3 dealers that morning. Was that simple. By the next day, they had the best offer of quite a few I had gathered between in person and online quotes and I accepted it.
