Planning on ensuring before I leave the SC with my truck on Friday it's on the latest software version. It better be before I get there, but if not I will 100% make someone sit there and wait with me while it updates. Definitely don't want to run the risk it dies on me somewhere inconvenient.

WTF with Rivian taking days (weeks?) to roll-out a software update....
Did they only pay the internet tax for a limited number of data bits? :computerrage:

It makes sense as you don’t want to roll out an update only to find and error that bricks a bunch of vehicles….then try to roll it back. I’m perfectly ok with a slow rollout. Tesla updates are done the same way…there were at least a couple of updates that they found issues and had to do a patch to the rollout. Those that hadn’t received the update got the newer update without the bug.

I take delivery today. I sure hope the tech can install this latest update on my truck today.

Unless there is a note on the display that it has an update pending, seriously doubt it will happen! Mine didn't give me the option to update until 3rd day of ownership.

I took delivery this past Saturday. I put a note in my phone to make sure and check/ask about the truck's software state. When the delivery rep showed it on the display it was not this latest one. I asked him why it wasn't updated in the service center (where I was then picking it up) and he said they only do that when Rivian sets a mandatory software level. All others are just allowed to roll-out in the normal fashion. I thought about saying, "well, I want it updated now" but held off because I didn't want that to then postpone taking possession of it.

When the 12V battery dies can't you simply "jump start" the car?

I know with other EVs like my Taycan and E-tron, there are jumping terminals that you can connect to another EV or ICEV (with standard jumping cables) and provide power to the car long enough for the main battery to connect, turn on the vehicle, and begin charging the 12V battery.

You can only really "jump start" ICE vehicles because they have an alternator which then powers all systems at 12volts.
With the Rivian the HV battery is supposed to trickle charge the 12v batteries which then run the accessory systems because if you plug high voltage into an ipad (or screen, door lock actuators, etc) it will fry.
For some reason on certain trucks this isn't happening correctly which means a painful replacement. This is supposedly fixed by the newest software update. I'm slightly shocked trucks are still being delivered without this update knowing what the cost could be to the company to service 1 vehicle this way.
I'm no electrical engineer so I could be wrong but if the 12v batteries completely die you can't jump it. If they have a little life left in them you should be able to trickle them back up to health.

When the 12V died on my Taycan, you can "jump" it by connecting jump cables to another vehicle. This allows the HV battery to turn on the car, and then the car will slowly charge up the 12V battery back to a normal state. If the 12V battery is completely dead (no longer able to hold a charge) then that's a different situation.

Most of the time the 12V has slowly discharged because some 12V accessory was running when it wasn't supposed to and drain it enough that the car won't turn on. All of the EVs use the 12V battery for minor accessories light dome lights, and remote unlock/lock. The 12V battery is also used to connect the main battery when the car is turned on. When the car is off the main battery is actually disconnected.

Many EVs have had this issue. Teslas, Taycan, Kia and Hyundai EVs, Mach-E, even Lucid. All were fixed through future software updates to prevent the 12V from accidentally draining.

I know the EV6 has had 12v battery issues, and saw a video of a guy bringing his EV6 back to life by connecting a trickle charger to the 12v battery. So yes, it should be possible with the Rivian too.

"We asked Hyundai's EV engineers why the 12-volt battery persists, and Ryan Miller, manager of electrified powertrain development, responded. "All the ECUs in the vehicle are powered from the low voltage, as well as the power relays that separate power from the high-voltage battery pack and the rest of the high-voltage network in the car," he said. "That separation allows us to safely disconnect the high voltage from the low voltage when the vehicle is not being driven or in the event of a crash."

@LoneStar Do you have a good AT&T LTE signal in your parking garage?

you know I haven't looked at the bars-meter to check it.
I expect it should be good because my spot is near a large open entry.
