Rust developing on tow hooks.

Generation 1 2024 R1S dual performance <20k Miles in the New England Region. I’ve noticed some surface rust starting already on my front tow hooks.

Is anyone else seeing this so early in the vehicle's life? Even with the heavy salt we get up here, it seems excessive for a 2 year old truck.

I’ve already installed those yellow silicone Amazon covers to protect the area, but I'm considering a service request. Has anyone had success getting similar corrosion covered under warranty?

Worth a shot at service.

Before putting the covers on did you remove the rust and apply a coat of grease/oil? If not you’re likely going to make it worse by making a nice trap for moisture and salt to sit in contact with the tow hooks.

I only cleaned and dried them, I didn't have any grease but was going to get some.

Is that just surface rust, or is that deeper? If it's just surface rust, I'd clean the rust off and use something like this periodically: Boeshield T9. T9 is good stuff.

I wouldn't use the covers as that may make the situation worse by trapping moisture.

Mine has 2 spots developing, but I highly doubt service will care, especially if you are trying claim warranty.

I think what might have caused it on mine, is the silicone hook covers catching some metal filing or something similar and hold it against the tow hooks surface.

Rust is only covered if it fully perforated the item, or body panel. Surface rust isnt a warranty item.

Not a spec of rust on my 2022, but I suspect you live in a snowy area that uses road salt? I'd give you low odds of a warranty, given it isn't deep enough to affect strength and function, but it costs nothing to ask. I have covers and agree with others that they will probably accelerate corrosion because they are very loosely fit with gaps to hold water/salt longer.
What might be more effective is to apply a PPF wrap to them if you can find someone with the skills to wrap such a complicated shape. Amazon has some inexpensive clear wrap in small sizes if you want to wrap it yourself in clear, after a good cleaning. Best of luck in whatever path you take.

I'm having the exact same issue with the tow hooks on my 2026 R1S. Started about 2 months after I picked up the car in October.

Neither is flaking paint... I had rust and paint flaking on the gear tunnel door swing arm hidden by the plastic panel. They just shrugged.
