This is a weird one. I was detailing Gonk and the rubber stops for the driver and passenger handles popped out and won't go back in securely.

They're supposed to look like the pic below but no amount of pushing gets them to sit in there securely anymore, they're just loose. Anyone else experience this?

I wouldn’t say it’s common but have seen multiple posts from people saying theirs are missing. I think it’s just a rubber stop for the handle and not a switch of any sort. Unless you already have an appointment, it’s probably not worth troubling SC. Just apply small dab of non permanent adhesive, like RTV silicone.

Thanks! I forgot to do a general Google search and found the posts right after I posted this. Appreciate the adhesive advice, I'll definitely do that.

Weird that they're so easy to pop out! I barely brushed past them with a rag.

Which suggest they are designed to take pressure, as bump stops, and easily replaceable. Most people probably lost theirs from taking theirs to the car wash, especially the hand wash ones where they spend only a few minutes on each car and don't pay attention. SCs probably have a bin full of them. If you have one near you, you can just drop in and ask for replacements.

I've still got them both. They just won't sit flush anymore. A little dab of adhesive will fix it!

I 3D printed a batch of these that I keep because I've lost so many on my R1.

That’s honestly such a typical Rivian quirk, right? I’ve had a couple of those little things work themselves loose before, and it’s super annoying how easily they just pop right back out. Honestly, don't bother wasting a trip to the Service Center for it—a tiny drop of clear RTV silicone or even some E6000 worked perfectly for me to keep them in place for good, and you really can't tell it's there at all. Just be careful not to overdo the glue so you don't make a mess of the finish.

Right. What I meant is you don't have to have an appt., for something this minor, if you care to acquire a few spares just in case.

Strange i've never lost one of these. The door handles are flush when in car wash mode so how are they being lost?

What will happen if you don't have those plugs? The door won't open/close?

They're largely non-functional. There to deaden rattle from the handles and give you the ability to push in to free the handle if it's iced over. So, not critical but still nice to have.

It would be interesting to hear from the engineers who implemented this why this bug is so hard to fix that it even made it into the "most important vehicle"

What? It's not that big of a deal. Compared to a frozen door handle? Plus the rubber stop is easily replaced and easy to keep in place (with commonly available non-permanent and flexible adhesives)?

If it is so easy to fix , I'm just wondering why rivian can't do it
