First off, @Rivian Roamer (Chad) solid work on your side project, much appreciated.

I've been tracking data via ElectriFi since about May 2024 and finally took the time to upload it into RivianRoamer's database. I'm still going through all the different charging sessions and creating locations to capture the proper cost of charging etc, but in the meantime I figured I'd upload my battery stats for anyone interested.

Of note, I live downtown Vancouver BC. with no L2 home charger, so rely primarily on DCFC charging about once every couple weeks or so to top up. We have a house outside of town that has a Rivian L2 charger, which is where the bulk of the L2 charging data and 100% charges have happened.

The last several months I've tried to stay within a 25% charge discharge level, but clearly not diligent on it.

@Rivian Roamer I'm probably an outlier here, but can you add the option for time based charging rates in location tags? ChargePoint, Petro Canada, and now Shell Recharge are all $0.50/min. I've tired to average those out to around $0.20/kWh but doesn't always equate depending on charging curve.

I have 68,000kms/42,000mi

What information is the the battery capacity calculated from?

I'm not entirely sure how it's calculated, I assume once you have access to some of the live data from a vehicle it tells you how much battery is addressable to the owner and the current SOE (state of energy) in kWh.

The amount the owner can use changes seemingly based on how much Rivian's BMS algorithm allocates for it's own buffer. This fluctuates, as you can see, with the temperature of the pack. Because I primarily DCFC once a week or so, my pack probably shows a more varying range of battery capacity due to the days of cold soaking at ambient temps, and relatively short daily commutes.

Have you cross checked that number with your ABRP number?

Often and yes, they are pulling the same data so the capacities match

I've been working on a UI for this. It's really hard to get right.

I have requests for...

1. TOU with multiple rates per day
2. TOU with multiple rates per month
3. Charge based on time

All of this with account level, vehicle level and location level overrides. It's getting complicated and getting the UX right is important.

It's under way, just slowly.

Thank you for the kind words!

As far as capacity goes.

Rivian does not expose gross battery capacity, only net. This means you're only seeing what's available not actually use. Rivian reserves some based on conditions (weather, etc).

There is no way to reliably get gross battery capacity.
