Has anyone else experienced this? Attaching image of conversation in service app. I just hit 50k miles over a year+ of ownership and would like to know my battery state of health (%) so I can make more informed decisions around my charging habits.

I see the problem ... you thought that just because you bought the vehicle, that you own it now ... a common mistake among Rivian users.

I understand why you want to know, but I also understand why they don’t want to tell you. You’ve got a long warranty on the battery so unless you just feel like fighting with them I would move on…

They probably don't tell people because some customers may freak out over their battery health. The customer is fine one day, and then the next day they freak out because the same truck has a state of health of 93%. It doesn't change how you should use it, but some unreasonable people would suddenly become battery engineers and make unreasonable demands.

Look at what happened when Rivian made the driver display where you could see the motor temperatures. Lots of people were posting that their motors were overheating. They had no complaints before the display, but now that they could see the temps, some people were freaking out that their motors were about to catch on fine.

I think this problem actually needed to be resolved by the regulator - yes, there is a warranty, but how do you know you are getting close to 70% capacity? Range alone will not tell you. Vendors should have this information available, especially for the used market.

As for Rivian, you can see the batter SoH (kind of) - by looking into battery capacity (ABRP will show you if you have Rivian connected). Mine reports 130.70Kwh out of 131kWh.

Batteries may be software locked making it difficult to give SOH results that are useful to your fictitious upper limit. Just a guess. Mine acted like a gen 1 max pack and now is acting like a large pack.

I see 3 paths forward that result in the information you want.

Option 1.

Step 1: watch odometer and drive until you have used 5% of the battery. Multiply the answer by 20 and divide by the EPA rated range. Declare that value your state of health. Do this on a cold day to ensure that the number is really low.
Step 2: Respond to Rivian that you believe your battery is down to 50% (whatever you calculated) and demand a battery replacement under the warranty.
Step 3: Rivian will deny your claim.
Step 4: File a lawsuit/arbitration claiming breach of contract/warranty.
Step 5: Rivian will then be required to either replace the battery or provide real evidence that your battery is fine. If they replace your battery you now know that your state of health is 100%. If they chose to provide evidence, that evidence will include an answer to the question they are currently refusing to answer.
Even though your calculation was terrible, a terrible calculation is still better than no calculation. So the only way for Rivian to prevail is to provide their own data. And you will have a right to see that data.

Option 2.
Step 1: same as above.
Step 2: Tell Rivian your plan to follow through on 2-5 and suggest it will be much cheaper for Rivian to just provide the evidence now before the lawyers get involved.

Option 3:

Look at the Rivian app API data. Specifically the batteryCapacity field. Divide the answer by theoretical capacity.
The API is reporting my battery is 130.569992 kWH. 130.569992/135 = 96.7%
I don't know for a fact that this is accurate, but the value does shift around from day to day so it isn't a hard coded number. And back when the SOH was listed in the RIDE menu, it showed up as 97% so it lines up with that.

Most correct answer so far @COdogman . For reference, I have a Gen 1 Large made before any other battery configuration even existed. I agree with @Carscott that this rule may be to protect them and even allow them to "unlock" battery packs if they get close to warranty replacement coverage. I am not a crazy person and would accept a SOH in the low 90s. I just wanted to know. Their software currently does not take into account SOH when calculating miles remaining AFAIK. I am ahead of most people in mileage, especially for an R1S. If nothing has changed when I hit 100k, I guess I'll calculate it myself by doing a full 0-100% and look at the charging data to find usuable kWh.

If you use a service like electrafy, it would tell you the battery capacity info that @sub mentioned without you having to dig in to API calls yourself. Pretty sure they offer a free trial.

Just another option for you to consider.

SoH used to be in the RiDE menu and they removed the entire BMS tab for this very reason. It is my belief that any and all battery degradation is taken from the unusable buffer maintained in the battery. They do this for one simple reason - to keep your effective range similar throughout standard ownership and warranty periods. I treat my battery very terribly. I charge to 100% a lot (more often than not), DC fast charge a lot, park with over 95% for long periods, etc My range has remained unchanged over the past 2-1/2 years 46k miles (except the small adjustments they've made in software a couple times) 284mi in AP 20" wheels large battery.

I use TezLab to track charge and discharge, and expected range at a given percent. If it is with 5 percent I don’t sweat it. Madison Heights SC seems to be legit been pretty happy with them as a fellow Michigan resident.

I agree Madison Heights service center has been great--probably because they aren't swamped with the backlog of people with entitlement issues that the coastal service centers get (I kid, I kid!). My whole post here has been more for curiosity's sake and problem solving.

I still would like to know usable kWh and/or SOH. OBD scanning appears to still be elusive to the common man from my forum research. I am certain that is how the service center would be obtaining and providing the data if they wanted to. Pulling some processed data directly from API would be next best option, and trusting a third party company to pull and provide API info appears to be third best, due to some privacy concessions.

How do I look at this and understand the battery degradation? I sub to electrify after around 10k miles for my r1s and currently have 27k miles.

On the Home Screen, the top center section has the “Battery” details. It tells you how much is charged out of the available capacity (e.g. 95 / 130.5) that second number represents the total capacity the vehicle believes you have. You can take that and compare it to the usable capacity that your vehicle is supposed to have. You can find the Gen 1 capacities here. Not sure where to find the Gen 2 capacities.
