Hey all,

I haven’t seen this specific topic in my sleuthing , but I have had a very poor morning regarding my rivian. My home charger (rivian version ) is stuck in the charging port of the r1s. All attempts to restart, sleep, mechanical release have failed . I have been on the phone with support, and it looks like I am scheduled for a visit in 7 days from a tech (though they are attempting to shrink that delay)

It does seem as if it’s the charger lock mechanism that seems unable to release. The car /wall charger combo has been my main source of charging with no issues for months .

Anyone had this issue , and have a fix ?

Just curious, did you try flipping the breaker off on the charger?

Where did you charge the time before? Sometimes poorly maintained public chargers can cause damage to vehicle ports or leave debris behind. Will lead to a poor connection, potentially causing things to melt.

I have been charging with my wall charger solely for months. Last time I used a public charger was at a RAN in December.

My wife said she had an issue with it a couple nights ago being difficult to remove. And it does seem to have a bit of play, but nothing really discernible enough to make the lock not function

I would try locking and unlocking the vehicle a few times while lightly pushing in the charger as the charger locks in place when the vehicle locks and unlocks when the car unlocks.

The strange thing is that the app says “charger not plugged In”, but I am still able to initiate a charge. So it’s definitely not in there 100%. When I push the latch on the battery plug, I can hear a click, but it doesn’t disengage

the unlock /lock trick doesn’t work unfortunately. That was something support tried with me as well.

yes, mechanical release is released with no noticeable effect

it does wiggle. If anything fused it’s the latching lock .
But yeah this is stumping me .
Have you tried forcing it in more and see if it releases? That worked once when I thought the plug was stuck in my Tesla.

If you don’t get it out would appreciate a follow-up on what the tech does to get it out in case we run into this at some point

i have tried various levels of force, gently prying the lock open, etc to no avail . I will post a follow up for sure. Figured I can’t be the only one in the scheme of things.

I will say rivian tech support was responsive and already hooked me up with rental car and Uber credit to get there . I am annoyed at this and the up to 7 day wait, but it could be worse with poor CS.

??‍♂ well at least they are taking care of you. Hopefully nothing is melted. I would turn off the breaker to the charger and keep it off just in case.

I

I was told when I bought the vehicle that there was no lock on it, and you had to pull firmly and at the correct angle. It’s been stuck a couple times, and I just pulled hard and it came out.

If you can push the button down completely, then it's not actually locked. You wouldn't be the first person to have the port melt with the Rivian charger. If you can get it to initiate a charge, do that and come back in 15 minutes to yank it out warm (vehicle unlocked so the port is unlocked, obviously). Most likely cause is that it's damaged.
