Yes! Happened to me today. It was a little unnerving for me and my passenger. Chalking it up to being a 4 wheel computer but what if I'm up on highway in the mtns and it's snowing out. Wasn't going to submit but will. Maybe with enough reports they will fix glitch. Should be a bug notification in the app

Any one run into this issue before? While driving to work the r1s just decided it needed to reboot.

Kinda scary when driving and your whole car shuts off. Stereo system, screens, etc.

On the bright side the vehicle remained operational on basic functionality, such as acceleration and braking. I have no idea if I could have shifted to park or if the vehicle lights (brake, headlights, turn signals, etc) were working.

I submitted an issue ticket with rivian but based on my service experience so far with rivian I have little faith they will even look into it and provide anything besides an "it's normal" response. Sorry for the crap photo but I don't use my phone while driving and it was difficult to snap.

Edit: after looking at my photo it appears the lights work and the shifter info was displayed. It looks like this is a backup computer system that does the absolute basics of vehicle driving while the main computer reboots.

Had this happen today while towing my horse to the vet. Very unnerving. But everything booted back up fairly quickly.

Not at all but not having a blind spot assist or camera doesn’t make the vehicle unsafe. Even no speedometer isn’t unsafe, you can clearly see outside and judge the speed of the vehicle fairly accurately. Not saying it’s good to have this problem by any means but if the steering, accelerator and brakes still work it’s not unsafe.
maybe not unsafe but it does make it less safe.

I mentioned it when I brought it in for service. They said it was from not enough coolant or something, and redid the coolant. Whether or not that was true, it hasn't happened again.

interesting. I will keep that in mind. I was towing in 100 degree heat so it’s possible it was a temperature issue but if it is, it will likely happen again.

Have not experienced this but my model 3 did it a few times. Freak me out the first time and I pulled over on the side of the road but car is still functioning as driving.

I second that it must be reported.

I’m glad it’s technically drivable, but my hot rod would also drive without any of the electronics working but it’s certainly not street legal.

On that note: Operating the vehicle without a speedometer or ability to operate ALL the required signals/hazards/lights horns etc is indeed a big deal to the DOT / NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, which are laws regulating the safety of motor vehicles in the US.

FMVSS No. 101, Controls and Displays, includes requirements for speedometers and odometers.
