Over the past several days, I've been getting text messages from Rivian with the expected, normal verbiage as follows:
Your Rivian Authentication Code Is ######

This code will expire in a few minutes. Do not share it with anyone.

@rivian.com # ######

The worrisome issue is, I haven't done anything that should trigger the text. I do have two-factor authorization enabled, but had/have not tried to log into my account. This has happened at least four times over the past three days, and twice today. I phoned Rivian CS who tell me they've noted and escalated my issue, and said basically not to worry about it. After the second instance today - just about 30 minutes ago - I phoned again and got basically the same response. I pressed the rep a bit and asked if the issue is unique to me, or something that others are also reporting. He assured me that it was not a security issue, and said he thought that others were affected, but he wasn't certain and could offer no information on how widespread it may be.

Has anyone else experienced this? With all the hacking and security breaches these days, this is a bit unnerving.
Having the same issue. The texts come multiple times a day. I have a unique password for Rivian (and just changed it again.) Most of the texts have come from a 56839 short code, from which I have never received texts previously. But on Monday/Tuesday I received a couple texts from the 80948 short code from which I have previously received service messages, and 80948 is the short code that sends the actual 2FA codes when you login.

Seems like more than a glitch.

I believe I have solved my issue with getting the random authorization codes.

I have my vehicle with Recurrent (https://www.recurrentauto.com/) for monthly battery status reports.

I deleted my R1S and then added back in, where I have to sign-into my Rivian account through Recurrent. Doing so invoked 2FA and once completed, the random text codes stopped.

So, if you have signed up for some service where required you to log into access Rivian info, that's probably the reason for the text.

Ah, that could be it. I have mine with Recurrent also. Nice work.

Will we need to reauthorize this every month?

I'm also on Recurrent. Great detective work and thanks for the tip.

I've had the exact same thing happening to me.

Don't know why.

Only started happening since Rivian sent 2FA requirement letter and I did so.
Same exact thing here

Same thing is happening to me and it’s annoying. This has to be a glitch on Rivian’s end and hopefully gets fixed.

Just got this email from Recurrent:

Dear Rivian Driver,

Thanks for being connected to Recurrent for Vehicle Insights on your R1T or R1S!

Rivian has made an improvement to their account security technology, which means that your Rivian’s connection to Recurrent may be temporarily affected.

Here’s what to know:
  • Starting today, Rivian drivers must have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled on their Rivian accounts and re-authenticate Rivian vehicles through Recurrent/Smartcar.
  • From that point, each connection should remain valid for 6 months.
  • After the initial 6-month period, Rivian drivers will need to reauthorize their vehicle through Recurrent/Smartcar every 6 months to maintain connectivity.
Previously, there were reports of Rivian connections needing to be re-authorized with Recurrent every two weeks due to the multi-factor authentication “token” expiring after that short period of time.

The good news is that this change from Rivian solves the issue and re-authentication will only be required once every six months.

You may also receive periodic emails from Rivian with a multi-factor authentication code even if you did not request one recently. This is also an indication that you will need to complete the following.

Here’s what you can do to maintain or re-establish your Rivian’s connection to Recurrent:
  1. Look for an email in your inbox from Rivian about setting up multi-factor authentication. It will look like the below email. Follow the link that Rivian sent you to complete two-factor authentication setup.
  2. Visit your Recurrent Dashboard (click here) to check for a prompt to reconnect your Rivian. If you see one, follow the prompt. If you do not see a prompt yet, you may see one in the coming weeks if/when your Rivian login “token” expires. Recurrent will automatically send you an email reminder several days after we lose connection to your vehicle.
  3. If you wish to be more proactive, you can remove the vehicle connection from Recurrent and re-add the vehicle via the Recurrent Dashboard.
If you have any questions about this update from Rivian, do not hesitate to reach out to us for more information.

Are you guys connected to TeslaFi? If i had to guess, that's why some of you are receiving 2FA notices. It's probably trying to log-in to your main or sub accounts.. and can't because of the new 2FA restrictions?

Just speculation on my part.

I use ElectraFi and Home Assistant and have logged in/out to both a few times since the announcement and have no problems.

I updated per the Recurrent instructions a week ago and have not had the issue since.
