I’m up in Telluride this weekend from Denver, my truck’s been parked out in the heavy snow for the past 2 days getting absolutely dumped on. I haven’t seen 1% even of range loss.

Go Rivian. Through lots of great software updates and tuning, no range loss at ALL!

Went to pick up some food after skiing today, pre-conditioned a good 10 min before getting in, completely warm and ready to go.

I really love this truck. A few winter pics because I haven’t shared in a while.

My recent road trip in Northern WA with temps to -13(f) saw about a 20% loss in optimal range. However, it was windy as hell from the side and head on and that also impacted things. Preconditioning helped a lot.

I was very happy that the efficiency was that good in those very harsh conditions.

Timely post. I have a R1T but unfortunately chose to drive my model S the other day. I left it parked in 30F weather for 9 hours. I left it at 7% charge (I know, no time), came back to 0%/0 miles 9 hours later. I was still able to drive the 1 mile to the Supercharger and get filled back up (for free too)

It lost 7% (~18 miles) in 9 hours at 30F. Tesla tried to tell me it was normal, now they want me to bring it in.

Should have taken the Rivian but my NACS vs CCS fear is strong. Options, especially in NH/VT/ME are terrible.

Likewise, I fear heading to NH/VT for skiing. Fast chargers are few and far between. It will improve but that doesn't diminish the fear this year.

The Rivian has a lot more range, and its behavior, per the OP, appears much better (dont leave seat belts buckled though!). Its just less charging options and those that are there are flaky, contested, etc.

Wow!! I’m glad you were able to make it, though!

I didn’t experience the same regarding range loss while parked. I live in Phoenix and parked my R1T at the airport in covered parking for almost exactly 7 full days (Jan 19-26). When I left it had 192 miles of range and when I returned it had 74 miles. Still plenty to get me home but I lost ~17 miles per day!! I didn’t put it in camping mode or anything. I just parked the vehicle, locked the doors and left. I have the latest software. The temps ranged from 35-60F during that time. Anything I should be doing to preserve range while parked?

When I had this early on with my R1T it was because of either seat belts left buckled or my gear tunnel doors not fully closed. Any open door, window or engaged seat belts stops it from sleeping.

whoa that is not normal at all. I live in Portland Oregon and leave my R1S at the airport for a week at a time and barely lose more than 2-3% total for the week. Something is definitely draining yours.

I have seen the seatbelt comment before. I am curious why you buckled the belt on an empty seat?

Only time I noticed a range loss on my R1T, was on a night when the outside temperatures was single digits, and I neglected to pre-heat the car (schedule departure) ahead of time. So the battery was very cold. If you pre-heat, your range is going to be less affected by the severe cold.
