New to EV - How do you do PREHEAT?
Does it mean warm up the cabin? or there is an explicit button that heats up the battery?
Preheat the cabin when you intend to use the vehicle, and navigate to your destinations, including fast charging stops. The vehicle will take care of the rest, and trigger battery heating when needed.

There are a number on this forum that will tell you this doesn't function properly, but my vehicle seems to perform differently than theirs; as mine performs exactly as I would expect it to as a very long time EVr.

Surely, they could create a software solution for that.

It doesn't sound like good safety to be having to disengage/engage the belt repeatedly.

did you have the app on your phone running ??
I recently left the car home for few days with the app totally off. I did not noticed any loss. But again, tried it few weeks after the latest update. But the app was on, and noticed some drop.
I didn’t have the app open all the time, but I did check-in on it once a day or so.

I’m up in Telluride this weekend from Denver, my truck’s been parked out in the heavy snow for the past 2 days getting absolutely dumped on. I haven’t seen 1% even of range loss.

Go Rivian. Through lots of great software updates and tuning, no range loss at ALL!

Went to pick up some food after skiing today, pre-conditioned a good 10 min before getting in, completely warm and ready to go.

I really love this truck. A few winter pics because I haven’t shared in a while.

That’s great but you’ve completely misunderstood what is meant by cold weather range loss. Your “vampire drain” wouldn’t change much (if at all), it’s literally your “range loss”, meaning that in cold/snowy conditions, as with an EV, your Rivian will go approx 30% less miles with the same amount of charge..

From other posts, there are separate child seat anchors you use, not the seatbelt.

Most of the times I've heard of people doing it to avoid the car shifting into park when backing up (because they lift their butt off the seat). Also securing cargo with the seatbelt and leaving it in the car.

Nope, pretty sure I know the difference 😆

I’ve been around here long enough to know that vampire drain has been quite an issue for a while and specially in colder weather.

Good try though, golf clap for you 👏🏼

Calvin, you are breaking my heart with all those snow pictures.

In the south of BC, we got whacked with a warm, very wet atmospheric river a couple of weeks ago. Our snow was blown away. There are some ski hills that have closed and others with really bad conditions.

Enjoy your skiing!

I didn’t experience the same regarding range loss while parked. I live in Phoenix and parked my R1T at the airport in covered parking for almost exactly 7 full days (Jan 19-26). When I left it had 192 miles of range and when I returned it had 74 miles. Still plenty to get me home but I lost ~17 miles per day!! I didn’t put it in camping mode or anything. I just parked the vehicle, locked the doors and left. I have the latest software. The temps ranged from 35-60F during that time. Anything I should be doing to preserve range while parked?
I had a similar loss while parked at the airport. I had a daily preconditioning schedule with the slider set to pull from the charger. On day four I turned preconditioning off on the app and daily loss was back to normal (4 or 5 miles/24H). I think that even though the slider is set to pull from charger, the truck preconditions from battery (or maybe just heats the cabin - I didn't investigate further). I thought I would be a fan of the preconditioning schedule, but I come to the conclusion that I'll only use it if I need the extra range on a cold day.
Update: Today I realized that the sliders in each of the schedules where actually to the left (=pull from charger disabled). This explains the daily loss while parked at the airport: It was preconditioning 3x per day while parked (which means only cabin climate when not plugged in). I could have sworn I had the sliders to the left...

where are you charging in Telluride? I drove up to telluride from Phoenix but couldn’t find a usable route to allow me to drive my R1S I understand there will be a DCFC in Cortez soon. But nothing in Telluride for Rivian’s, I did email customer support about charging in the 4 Corners.
Which DCFC will be in Cortez soon? Is there a link for reference?

The vehicle sitting in snow does not effect range, it is the cold that starts killing a battery. We see 20% loss in cold below 30 degrees.

Great shots! Range loss can be mitigated if you can precondition on shore power before setting out on your trip.

The preconditioning uses more energy though and so unless you want cabin comfort you aren't gaining anything unless your taking a long road trip where leaving with as much energy in the batter possible is key. It will also improve the overall efficiency during said road trip.

Rivian has definitely improved these trucks tremendously. Just over the last six months it's amazing what Wasim and the rest of the team have pulled off.

I‘m curious to know what settings you all with little to no vampire drain are using, especially which “proximity“ settings you use, how often you use phone to check vehicle and anything else you do to reduce “waking” the vehicle.
I’m asking because despite my best efforts I seem to lose at minimum 1% overnight and unknown % during the day. Unknown % because if I drive it’s hard to determine what is lost thru use and what from vampire when not used.
I‘ve seen as much as a 4% loss in a 24hr period. Note that these losses are occurring while the vehicle is parked in my garage with temps usually around 60*. Also, I’ve now turned off ALL proximity settings.

My recent road trip in Northern WA with temps to -13(f) saw about a 20% loss in optimal range. However, it was windy as hell from the side and head on and that also impacted things. Preconditioning helped a lot.

I was very happy that the efficiency was that good in those very harsh conditions.

i'm so confused. I just picked up my R1T in december, and I'm seeing around 5 miles of loss per day. I saw about 30 miles of loss in a week with the truck parked the whole time. Even as temperatures got warmer the mileage loss keep up. I contacted support and they said it's normal, and that the vehicle has to warm up the battery, even when not in use. But OP posts that their truck is parked in the snow with zero range loss, something doesn't add up.
