Had a great trip from the SF Bay Area to the Laguna Beach R2 event using just RAN. Weather was decent with temps from 50s to 70s. Had a little rain going south and clear skies coming home. No significant winds. The RAN chargers did a great job!!!

870.4 miles averaging 2.43 mi/kWh

-- Going SOUTH - Two stops for 435 miles

Stop #1
46 kWh added in 18 min (222kW DC max rate)
$16.78 total

Stop #2

-- Go Home/NORTH - Two stops for 435 miles

Stop #1
63 kWh added in 25 min (221kW DC max rate)
$22.78 total

Stop #2

Thanks for sharing! Did you need to go out of the way to use the RAN chargers or were they along the optimal route? I’m curious since I live near Laguna and would be interested in doing the reverse of your trip.

Nice! How full were the chargers? Here out east I find myself pulling up to like 20-pylon large installations where I'm the only one, midday. I find myself saying to people a lot that Rivian needs to open it up but I realize I'm completely ignorant to the experience out west where so many more are sold.

Rivian appears to be doing an extremely solid job on the rollout. Can't think of a charging Network that has gone up with less fuss and that much capacity per-site on this scale other than Tesla.

Agree on the reliability of RAN, it's a very reliable charging network. Disagree on the speed. They are very far behind where Tesla was when they started the supercharger network. And probably behind the speed of EA and EVGo. I do wish they would pick up the pace but it is what it is.

Nice! If it was done by a similarly sized ICE, that would be $200 in fuel.

Great report. Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, Rivian is skipping an all important road tripping route; the I10 between Arizona, New Mexico and half of Texas 😟
From Gila Bend, AZ'S RAN, driving along the heavily used I10, to the next RAN would be 989miles (a huge void) away in San Antonio, TX. So, all I'm left with are the crappy EA's charging stations (many doesn't work or they severely dumb down your charge current) between those two RANs.

There are some Tesla chargers on I-10 but still a huge gap between Phoenix and Las Cruces.

No news yet on using Tesla's SC with our Rivian 🤔

All EAs, Benson, Lordsburg, Deming, El Paso, Van Horn, Ft Stockton, Ozona, Junction. These are the EA locations that I have used along the 989 mile gap. Yeah, I tend to stop alot :CWL:

RJ said end of March.
Did he mention anything about sending owners an adapter? Rivian in the past had mentioned about a free adapter to use with Tesla' network :fingerscrossed:

Yep he reiterated that current owners will get a free adapter. I hope the rollout is better than the Ford adapter rollout. I think Ford owners would have to wait until December if they ordered an adapter now.

Take it for what its worth, but a couple of weeks ago the service guy said we would know it was close when the update came adding Tesla locations to the nav. This update does that. Also said they hoped to send adapters out around 3rd week of March.

Questions:

1) did you make 2 RAN stops (assume Santa Nella and Button Willow) just to use RAN instead of a single stop at Kettleman City at EA to get down to Laguna?

2) assume you charged while you were in the southland at non RAN since there is none in OC.

Thanks in advance.
