Do you avoid using all Tesla superchargers too? Tesla makes great products and has many wonderful employees. The mobile connector and wall connector are the best quality and price available.
I will probably use them because they're fairly ubiquitous. I will probably make minor efforts to avoid them. But I definitely don't want to have any of their gear in my house.

I received the mobile connector with my 23 R1T and purchased or was given all the other adapters for CCS->NACS, J1772-> NACS along with all the possible plug options out there. For our Tesla (didn't get mobile charger) we have all the reverse adapters. L2 at home is Chargepoint with J1772 and use an adapter with Tesla. I have the Chargepoint cord with NACS plug which I'll swap out whenever R1T ownership ends.

Plenty of time to get the wall charger installed before vehicle delivery.
I would skip the portable.
I was thinking about that too. I will be using the R2 mainly as a commuter car, about 25 miles round trip. I may drive it a lot for the first few months to show off. I may have to use the charging station about once a week or so.

As for getting the wall charger before getting the R2, I didn't want to jinx myself because Rivian has not really given a hard target date other than Spring and I don't know where I am in the queue. :) I install the wall charger, only to find out I will not take delivery until 2027.:(

OK and for the same reason skip the portable.
Once the vehicle has a production estimate is time to get busy and install the wall unit.

Can I charge my R2 using the NACS to J1772 adapter with the portable charger that came with my Gen1 R1T?

Yes you can.

And just an FYI, adapter names go "what they are coming from" to "what they are going to". So the adapter you are describing would actually be a J1772 to NACS adapter.

The Rivian mobile charger is a solid unit. You can find new in box units for less than $200 on eBay. throw in a couple of adapters and you are good to go where ever you find yourself. The Tesla mobile charger is a good unit too, it is a bit smaller and has pigtails you can get to avoid the adapters. I'd stay away from no-name Amazon Temu garbage.

How do you handle charging from a 30a outlet using the Rivian charger plus an adapter? You can't set charging speed on the Rivian portable charger, as far as I understand.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your point. It's not "complaining" to ask if something is worth the money when there is alternatives and what Rivian is pushing as accessory looks grossly
overpriced.

It would be complaining if I were to buy a big house and leave all the windows open in the middle of Winter and complain about the power bill or buy a car that barely gets 10 mpg and complain about the price of gas. I see it as efficient use of money and not wasting it on useless things. and over the years I've wasted a lot of money useless things was not worth the money or collecting dust. Rather give the money to a food pantry or for school supplies at a local school. One of the reasons I don't waste time or money buying gifts during the Holidays for the last 28 years. Complaining is me say how much I hate the holidays and buy gifts is dumb. :)

To take efficient use of money a step further, I don't believe in leasing or financing a car, and I usually keep a car at least 5 years. My S2000 is 24 years old, my Odyssey is going on 9, and my 17 years old Civic will be replaced with the Rivian R2.

I wanted to replace civic 2 years ago with the Tesla M3 but Rivian did a cock block unveiling the R2. ;) More time save up for the R2. Luckily I've been saving the money buying tesla stock since 2016. I sold all the tesla stock to buy at least 5 or 6 LE R2, but I'm not going to waste $400 on Rivian's overpriced portable charger. However, I did buy 4000 shares of Rivian since January.

Thanks to the advise of the great people on this forum, I'm not even going to buy a portable charger at all. I'm just going to get quotes from electricians to install two Tesla universal wall charges in June. I will need them when I replace my S2000 with the R3X and maybe replace my Odyssey with an used R1 or new R3.

You would set the amperage in the vehicle itself.

The Rivian portable charger is quite good, but if you need compatibility with a lot of weird/less common outlets, the Tesla Mobile charger with it numerous 1st and 3rd party pigtails is worth it. If you don't want to give money to Tesla, you can find good used ones in many places.

Is the 30amp outlet you are talking about a TT-30 (RV) outlet? If so, I very much recommend going the Tesla Mobile route, since there's a great 3rd party pigtails for just that purpose: https://evseadapters.com/products/tt-30-adapter-for-tesla-model-s-x-3-gen-2?variant=45481215950905
