  1. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

It just hit me that the R2 would charge at twice the speed (~150kW vs ~75kW) for almost the entire charging session on these crappy cable limited chargers if it was 800V ;)
  2. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

If the infrastructure was sufficient where everyone can spend 60 minutes at a charger, then what does it matter if the vehicle is done charging? In fact, if every vehicle charges faster, site throughput can be higher and make it less of a problem if one or two stalls are occupied for an hour...
  3. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

I have been trying to workshop the '80% is labeled 100%' thing for the past year. And then actually using full 100% capacity is "extended range" 125% mode It simplifies the logic for non-nerds for both DCFC and overnight charging.
  4. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

I used to completely agree, but I've been converted. I can't drive percent! When we have vehicles of wildly different efficiency, miles matters more than energy. However, when towing, energy is the only thing that matters. Miles should scale approximately equally across vehicles depending on...
  5. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

FYI below may read as argumentative, but it's not meant to be - it's an attempt at discussion/persuasion. You're mixing sites and stalls. Yes, the majority of DCFC stalls/ports are Tesla superchargers. But I personally think sites is a more useful metric, as most stalls/ports sit empty most...
  6. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

Yeah. I'm extremely disappointed with the R2 battery (both capacity and charging speed), but at the same time it's better than basically every other US market EV at the same or lower price. I mostly just worry that in 2 years it will feel a bit like a dinosaur when the rest of the market...
  7. R2 10-80% charge test (by State Of Charge)

Possible. What's interesting though is that it charges exactly the same with production units as the "preproduction" ones tested months ago - the charge curve matches *exactly* the CarWow video from February. I am skeptical, but if they can find 10-20kW across the 35-75% region, that would get...
  8. Video: R2 owner demonstrating charging session at Tesla Supercharger

Gravity and iX3 will *smoke* the R2 in charging performance even on 400V. I would flip the direction - Rivian didn't do the "best" they could with 400V, they chose the cheapest battery that would push 400V architecture to the limit. Does it matter to most of the EV buying public? Probably not...
  9. Video: R2 owner demonstrating charging session at Tesla Supercharger

Correct. That was my point. The *best* a bigger battery 400v EV can do in pure theory is what I consider to be the minimum expectation of a modern long-range EV. I really hope Rivian can offer a bigger, faster charging battery option in the future. But without 800V architecture, they can't...
  10. Cancelling my Pre-order, thoughts inside from test drive

I think he would really like my Honda E that was only available in Japan and Europe.
  11. Video: R2 owner demonstrating charging session at Tesla Supercharger

400V, at best, is going to deliver a 10-80% of ~19 minutes: 400V * 500A *19/60 = ~63kWh delivered (70% of 90kWh). However, it's not just thermals at that point. That is holding 2.2C up past 75% SOC. It takes a hell of a good battery to manage that at any temperature. The Taycan and Cayenne...
  12. Video: R2 owner demonstrating charging session at Tesla Supercharger

Jumping in late to this thread, but a lot of confusion/FUD is buried in here, so I'll do what I can to help (and I'm sure get some heat.) IMO - The charging speed in the video is underwhelming - marginally better than we've been seeing from commodity EVs from other manufacturers for the past...
  13. Rivian AEB failure and crash

Can you get the video to playback at all? If so, consider the stupid option of a screen recording of the video playing back.
  14. R2 lift kit (aftermarket) by EVSportline

Yep, obviously. The question is how much margin is built into the original geometry. Below is just some generalizations for potential buyers to consider. EVsportline provides decent quality stuff and is absolutely going to be more knowledgeable than me on this subject. ---- In my...
  15. Mark Rober teases R2 modification

I don't think I would call that lying. It was certainly a motivated, nonsense test that existed to serve as entertainment and an advertisement for the lidar company.
  16. Mark Rober teases R2 modification

    It's a non-trademark infringing nerf canon.
  17. Towing 2000 lbs with R1T.

Mostly just charging logistics, as a lot of the places we wanted to go. Camp were 30, 50, 100 from the nearest DC fast charger. Were 30, 50, 100 mi from the nearest DC fast charger... And probably about 50% of the time the campground electrical didn't work (or would only reliably work at 120...
  18. Towing 2000 lbs with R1T.

We did several thousand miles of towing with it. Overall kind of a pain in the ass, But we loved it nonetheless. When the weather was good and speeds were 65 to 70 mph. We could do about 150 mi between charges if necessary. Typically, however, we would aim for 60 to 90 mile hops with a 20 to...
  19. Truck consistently resetting charging to 10 amps

I guess I never updated this. Without changing any wiring or dip switches, Rivian support did something on their end to reset or update the charger. It has behaved perfectly ever since across several different EVs.
  20. Towing + Efficiency: Please post your experience!

    300 / 1.41 = 212kWh. Must have done a battery swap with a Silverado EV.
