My childhood was hard. When I was in elementary school we were homeless for a while and my mother and step father always lived month to month at best.

I started working young and paid rent through highschool. At 18 I was making more money than they were.

Having a house fully paid off is a piece of mind I'm willing to have even if the smart thing to do would have been to invest the extra money.

Of course growing up without money I've become a natural saver but had no real investment knowledge. That's something I've been spending a lot of time rectifying lately.

Of course, sometimes paying for peace of mind is worth it based on circumstances. It works for you, so that’s all that matters. It might not have been the right financial choice, but it was the right choice for you.

That’s separate from pure smart financial advice, which only cares about $$$$.
