Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
R2 needs to be taller. Size is good, needs a 2" lift.
I think they’re trying to balance its drag coefficient with its boxy shape. Vehicles that have lower more raked roofs are slipperier. The $45K base model only gets 270 miles of range, so it needs all the help it can get, including a specially designed rear spoiler.

The lower roofline will also make it easier to load and unload a rooftop cargo carrier, tent, etc, potentially eliminating the need for running boards.

Just my hot take.

R2 is the perfect size for my needs. I love the looks of the R1 but it's always been too big (and too pricey)

Tesla owner here (M3 SR LFP and MY LR AWD). I really like the Rivian M2. Perfect size for my wife and me. The problem is, if there is no repair/service facility within +150 miles of where I live (south of Tucson, Rivian service is in Phoenix) I can't consider any make vehicle for our use.

Agreed. There has been rumors of Tucson being the next SC in Arizona. The Tempe location has helped a bit (no longer having to drive all the way up to the north side of town)

We may be able to take care of that. Waiting patiently for our first R2!

I'm counting on folks like you to take the Dual or Tri-Motor and create a bit more off-road awesome without compromising the range too much.

I love the smaller than length difference in wheelbase offering more space that one would expect.

Could probably be achieved with custom shock mount spacers (like the stuff you find for Subarus and other popular CUVs). But would require camber correction. Toe, may or may not be adjustable/corrected. Depends on factory adjustment range. You'd be introducing additional failure points (damage multiplier) and taking an efficiency hit. Primary audience will be suburban dwellers, which would make your wish an outlier.

I wonder what ride height the R1S is in here. Based on some back of the envelop math on vehicle height etc I figured the R2 would have slightly more ground clearance than the R1 in "Low," with a similar door sill to roof measurement.

The length difference is really encouraging to see side by side.
