R1S Suspected Front Camera Mis-Calibration

Just picked up my R1S yesterday. I noticed some weirdness with the front camera in the Bird’s Eye View.

I put my backpack just below and a little in front of the front bumper. Side photo below for perspective along with a photo of the Bird’s Eye view, which is oddly not picking up my backpack.

Also attached is a short video while my wife was backing up the car. There seems to be a rectangular area of distortion in front of the bumper and the camera is not picking up whatever is in the ground.

I put in a service ticket. My R1T cameras don’t do this. This isn’t normal for an R1S, is it?

The cameras introduce a "mirror" like effect to make up for the area where the camera can't see. If you look at the forward camera view, you'll see exactly what the camera can and can't pick up.

Some users had an issue with the front licence mount creating this large dark bar visible at the front of the vehicle in birds eye view. Hence the ultrasonic sensors chiming as proximity warning system running in conjunction with the surround view camera.

I swear I haven’t noticed my R1T doing this in 10 months of ownership and I thought the vehicles were identical from the B pillar forward.

Will have to compare once I get my R1T back from service.

I agree. My R1T I never noticed this on. Very obvious on the R1S, but I don’t get why it’d be different?

I did exactly that and I don't think this is a calibration issue. I'm wondering if my camera is slightly misaligned. I uploaded the second photo to my service ticket. That distortion is pretty bad IMO.

Nope! This is not normal. My R1T didn’t have any issues other than overall video quality. My R1S duplicates images and the images are too confusing to be helpful.
