R1S Max Pack

Does anyone know what happened to the option to have extended range beyond the Large pack for the R1S?
Rivian may not call it the Max Pack, but what gives if one wants extended range in a R1S?

Rivian has still released no information about product plans beyond the R1S "Large" pack. And even if they were to announce something s00n, it would likely be at least late 2023 or 2024 before it was available based on the R1T Max pack delay.

Original max pack was going to take up the area where the 3rd row seats fold into.

The R1S has a shorter wheelbase, but the battery pack for the Large pack is identical between the two vehicles. Rivian just chose to simplify their battery construction for the first vehicles.

It was EPA tested at 316 miles. 2 miles better than the T.

They have changed the website before, so just because it says that doesn't guarantee anything imo. We will just have to wait for more info.

I'm suspicious of the 250+ number personally. The rumored smaller battery pack size is 105kwh and if you apply that to the EPA tested 480wh/mi for the large pack it only comes out to 218 miles. Certainly you'll have a weight reduction by dropping about 25% battery capacity, but I'm skeptical that it will be sufficient to squeeze another 40 miles out if everything else is the same.

It's worth noting that for the S specifically the Max pack will likely not be the same 180kwh pack as the T if and when it comes.

Just to set expectations, the R1T is the only vehicle listed with a 400 mile max pack. The R1S wording is "longer range version" given that, don't expect 400 miles, if I were to guess, probably closer to 350-375. Then again, I have no inside info so make of that what you will.
