Captains chairs for the second row.
Roof that can be closed (not the slightly dim thing that Gen2 has)

Preferably LWB model for both larger third row and cargo space .

Larger battery capacity etc like all have mentioned, would be nice.

I like the lists but reality is Rivian isn't profitable enough to keep updating the line it may get minor updates every few years but large scale changes I can't picture happening anytime soon. Just look at any of the non legacy makers and you'll see almost none of them are updating their initial chassis offerings because they can't afford to.

More flexible rear seating. Copy the minivans that let you remove the center section and slide the remaining seats side-to-side.

Replace all of those static 5v USB charges with proper USB-PD compliant ports that are capable of at least 36w.

Give us back the 12v outlets.

More 120v outlets. (At least one in the 1st row)

Qi chargers that actually work when the vehicle is in motion.

Glove box

Cupholders in the 2nd row.

Flashlights in all 4 doors

Camera washers on all of the cameras

Tweak the rear hatch hinge/latching mechanism and 3rd row armrests so 4x sheet goods can lay flat.

I think all of those are easily doable, now for some less realistic wishlist items.

Design for repairability. If someone actually takes this off-road it is going to get beat up. Make everything that can be easily damaged user serviceable/replaceable. Especially bumpers and body panels. Make simple fender-benders, dings, and scratches a $500 - $1,000 fix instead of a $50,000 fix.

Tweak the Frunk packaging so that square and rectangle shaped items can fit in it without loosing half the space to weird angles and protrusions.

2nd NACS port at the rear. Let people choose to pull in or back in depending on the situation.

Extend the R1S wheelbase to match the R1T and to make the trunk space behind the third row usable.

1. All the cool new stuff in the R2.
2. 180 kWh battery.

If the R2 cells are 30% more dense, they can increase the capacity of the R1 pack without increasing size or weight.

141 kWh × 1.3 = 183 kWh.

Put those R2 batteries in the R1! Please!

Ferrari is putting CarPlay into it's very cool interior for it's first EV.....come on Rivian, it's ok to back peddle 🤣

Screenshot 2026-02-09 205901.webp
With Johnny Ive/LoveFrom doing the interior I’d have been shocked not too see it.

My personal wishlist for gen3 (not in any particular order):
* Acend interior ‘metal’ trim that doesn’t chip when you look at it.
* Gen1 door handles
* Less wind noise
* An interior you can hose out the floor on. (Oh and while at it, get rid of the ‘death hole’ between the seats and center console - my wife seems obsessed with seeing how many m&ms can go down it - and so far the answer is ‘a lot’)
* Slightly thicker metal all round on the body - I want to be able to lean on the truck and not have it pop in and out.
* Related to the above: unibody’s are cool, but please make the bed sides a separate panel from the one going over the doors and to the windscreen. I’m sure our insurance companies would thank you for that.
* Compass Yellow
* a heat pump with properly specified isolation mounts and blanket for its operating RPMs

Edit:
* Handle of some sort for the gear tunnel door!

I'm not asking for him to eat the seats, just offer us the option to not sit on plastic.
You don't understand veganism.

Sure, but things like captain’s chairs and roof cover should honestly be not too difficult to do.

Was just thinking about this - all the attention going to R2 what is Gen 3 R1 going to be?!

This should be a poll BTW to limit the extraneous "I'd like it to have a built in dishwasher" suggestions.

To upgrade my Gen 1 MAX to a Gen 3 I would need:
1) Better Charging - 800v architecture with 300+ kw charging speeds.
2) See #1

What I think Rivian should do:
1) GET RID OF THE AIR SUSPENSION!! The air suspension is the cause of nearly all our complaints and a single % of owners actually use it. You don't need the extendable axles which cause all those terrible noises. You don't need an advanced hydraulic system. You can drop thousands of dollars of cost from the price of the vehicle and I doubt you'd lose one sale.
2) See #1

This has been debated and discussed a billion times.

For me personally: 180 kWh battery, 800V charging, LiDAR.

Coming from a GEN R1T, some of these may be solved in the GEN 2, but here is my GEN 3 wish list.

  1. Much better cold and hot weather driving and charging performance.
  2. 800v or 1000v architecture.
  3. More modern battery tech and a larger battery.
  4. No damn air suspension.
  5. On the dual motor, better rear motor engagement performance.
  6. Improved HVAC AUTO mode.
  7. Better front footwell heating performance.
  8. Better heating when the fan is at higher speeds.
  9. Physical wiper control for wiper modes and speeds.
  10. Add cruise control resume!!!
  11. A non-glass roof option
  12. Powered tailgate for raise.
  13. An option to choose weather we want a RWD or FWD bias for conserve or standard mode.
  14. Reduced road noise.

Here are the reasons why:
  1. This is just part of the long list of variables that affect charging and battery consumption performance. I've been spoiled with filling up a gas tank. Just insert the nozzle and in 5min, you're topped off and on your way. There are so many people who try to justify the extra charge times, all the factors that affect EV charging, cold weather performance, etc, but at the end of the day, I need to get from point A to B and if I need to recharge during that journey, I need it to be as fast as possible and not feel like an inconvenience. Right now, it feels like I paid a lot of money to inconvenience myself.
  2. This would help with the above.
  3. This would help with the above. People say that larger batteries and more range are not necessary, but I hate having to plug in all the time. The saying is "Always Be Charging". Well, I don't want to be always be charging. It's like the vehicle always needs to be tethered to an umbilical cord to stay alive. Getting away from this would be so nice.
  4. Rivian had to replace my front suspension due to leaks within 2 months of my ownership. While everything else in the truck was fine, there were leaks causing the truck to squat to one side or the other in the front. There was also a broken wire that created a suspension fault that, for some reason, rendered my auto high beams inop, cruise control inop, drive mode selection inop, driver safety features inop, and who knows what else. It's crazy that so many things are affected just because the suspension had a fault. I would just prefer standard springs with electronic dampener control. Air suspension so too complicated and just ads a ton of expense to and maintenance for no big benefit.
  5. With the dual motor, try going around a corner in standard mode while the only the front motor is engaged. Mid corner, press on the accelerator hard enough to engage the rear motor. You'll feel the truck light up a bit in the rear and feel a little unstable. You'll also hear the engagement clunk. It just feels unpolished.
  6. HVAC auto sometimes doesn't know what it's doing. It will cycle through the levels and from recric to outside air intake. This changes the sounds in the cabin randomly. Maybe this is a software thing, but if it is, fix it with software.
  7. The footwell vent seems small and there is barely any airflow in the footwell. My feet could definitely be warmer on colder days.
  8. It seems like when the fan speeds are higher, the heater can't keep up with the faster moving air. Even after a long drive. For example, it's cold out and it's beginning to snow hard. The precipitation begins to accumulate and freeze on the windshield. So we turn on the defrost on high and set the temp to high. It starts blowing cooler air. Defrost almost always works best with high heat and mid fan speeds. It could be improved for sure.
  9. This is obvious. Having to cycle through the different fan settings sequentially through software is a pain. Some things should just have their own dedicated physical button.
  10. This goes without saying...
  11. An insulated roof would help improve cabin temp regulation and HVAC performance.
  12. This one is obvious.
  13. I would just prefer a RWD bias vs. FWD. But having an option to select between the two would be awesome.
  14. Add more sound isolation or active noise canceling in the cabin.

Also, when the wipers are on, why do I feel the wiper cycle in the accelerator pedal? LOL Is this just a me issue or has anyone else felt a knock in the accelerator pedal when the wipers are running?
Gen 1 R1T. Maybe this has been resolved in the Gen 2.
It's just a weird experience.

For the price point, the cars should have:
-Massage seats
-Glove boxes
-Built in running boards
-trays for second row that are built in
-bigger front screen and rear screen
-much faster charging
-captain chairs option for R1S
-get better efficiency. The max pack should actually get real world 400 miles.
-fridge/cooler built in
-better audio speakers
-much more powerful 120v plug in. 1500watts is not enough power.

I'm sure im missing some other things, but alot of these things are in vehicles half it's price. Rivian is presenting a luxury outdoor vehicle without the luxury aspect that other brands offer. They need to start

Yes, the wipers being on you can totally feel on the accelerator. I don't get how or why that happens, but it's pretty embarrassing.
