Just curious if people have Alexa configured and how they are using it.

For some reason I never set it up, plan to test at some point just Haven’t got around to it.
I chose the voice option but I use both.

If I’m in the car by myself I use the button.

If I have anyone else with me I use the Alexa wake word just so people know that I’m going to give her a command. Almost everyone knows how virtual assistants work and it’s easier to say “Alexa” than to say to my passenger(s), “Please don’t say anything for a sec because I’m going to give a voice command.” then press the steering wheel button.

I would say Alexa in car is a game changer for me and my kiddos...we use it all the time for everything related to vehicle commands - controls, nav, music, podcasts etc and kiddos to play games, trivia, jokes, general inquiries about anything/everything :D I never imagined we would use the in-car Alexa voice sooo much on our daily commutes!

My only issue with Alexa is when my backseat passengers (grandkids) decide the music I was listening to was not for them, and they ask Alexa to change the music. Do you think I should have a gag under the backseat? JUST KIDDING.

Nope. Turned it off as it’s basically useless and my kids talk to it all the time so that’s an instant pass!

I hate the idea of opting into a wire tap. I don't want any of that voice assistant crap listening to me and my private conversations. Not that I worry generally about some massive government conspiracy to monitor what I do, I just don't care for my privacy being invaded.

Use it daily for selecting music from Spotify, news from Tune in, navigation, getting weather, etc. Also allows anyone in the truck to select what they want to hear which my kids love. Functionality has been strong, occasionally have to repeat a command. Not having it in my Tesla now feels like something is missing.

See, that's where I assume that they are listening to me regardless of what privacy option I have selected. If it has a microphone and an internet connection...

You're right they probably are but you have grounds to sue or something if your data gets out when you didn't consent. Will it matter, probably not but every little bit helps I guess.

I have quite a few home automation devices that are compatible with Google and Alexa. I exclusively use Google since it rarely doesn't work. I'd be super happy if my Dark Energy worked with Google, also. Perhaps eventually they'll figure out there's no need to reinvent the wheel with regard to Apple car play/android auto. Made enough sense to adopt nacs from a actual rival but I still can't connect my phone the same as EVERY other car and TV and other connectable device. I guess they'll be looking for subscription fees to navigate to the nearest burger. I'm OK, now.
