Manual Cruise Control (Rivian capitalizes it) is available when towing. It is initiated by pulling the right stalk towards you, and disengaged by pushing it away from you. All it does is maintain a set speed without regard to the speed limit or vehicles around it. So, old school.
So if you like old school cruise control and are not towing you are out of luck? You have to use adaptive CC?

You could put the truck in tow mode, which disables adaptive. I think it also disables the rear sensors.

What I meant was setting the following distance to the minimum. That way the vehicle won’t begin to slow down until you are close to the vehicle in front.

Have you read the R2 manual? Page 249 discusses that.

Sorry to disappoint you but I’m a RTFM guy so I actually have read it (and every page before it). That’s what lead me to this thread (instead of starting a new one).

When you re-read it, tell me just how it explains following distance.

I have a test drive on Thursday. I’ll figure it out.

I don't understand your question.

If you set it to minimum, how would that make it compatible with towing?

The issue is Rivian is risk adverse, and they developed adaptive cruise using the weight of the truck as reference, not the weight of the truck + a 10,000 lbs trailer connected.

Slowing down that train requires more everything. Selecting "Spicy" so you are closer to the vehicle in front of you is worse, not better, if you want to slow the 16,000 lbs train.

Thanks. Yes, that is how the Model 3/Y work but not how the S/X work, as they have a dedicated stalk for adaptive cruise control functions. I’ve owned an S and currently own an X and 3, so am familiar with all those models (as well as the first Roadster).

I really want an R2 but will probably wait until mid-2027.
I thought the S & X post-2020ish went to the same number of stalks as the 3 & Y...

Sure. Bottom of page 249. As others more knowledgeable than I have pointed out (actual Rivian owners) selecting a different “Autonomy Drive Style” is how you change following distance.

If I have that wrong I would welcome a correction.

Sorry, you are correct, I was thinking of the first 8 to 6 years of S/X production not the more recent cars. Have not bought a Tesla since 2018 so am a bit behind the times… ;)
