I think QS has the best chance of being early to market with a SSB offering. I have a moderate investment in them at prices close to those today, so I hope they make it too!

I'm hoping they make it too. The energy density that they talked about in the PowerPoint from a few months ago when he talked with Sandy Munro is what has me most excited. Most 2170 cells are in that 270-300 Wh/Kg range, Tesla with the new 4680 is targeting 480-500 Wh/Kg, but QS was talking about 600+ Wh/Kg. That would be amazing for something like a truck for towing, add to that the increased charging speed and towing with an EV might be somewhat viable compared to a diesel

Once again, nice that they can get it to work at any level but scaling it to run a full size auto and then building it in volume with a long life expectancy is the current barrier to success. 2-4 years may be realistic or it may reveal all sorts of other impediments.

Are those numbers on the Tesla cells right? I've seen nothing that indicates a near doubling of the energy density, at least not when the 4680 cells are first manufactured. Maybe in 2025 with significant chemistry improvements.

Operative word is targeting. All I could find was Elon numbers so take with a boulder of salt :p

As I recall, going to the 4680 didn't change the energy density very much. It has 5.5x the volume and 5x the energy.

your numbers on the 4680 are way off. they aren't that energy dense, not even close. they have about 10-15% more capacity than current 2170 cells.

your numbers on the 4680 are way off. they aren't that energy sense, not even close. they are about 10-15% more capacity than current 2170 cells.
