I have a video coming tomorrow on Gen2 PDM Max. A bit of a spoiler. I cam away impressed with the PDM and felt it was pretty close to quad when pulling 0-60. Its rated at 3.4 second 0-60. If you have a quad with 21" or 20" your 0-60 is probably more like 3.2 anyway. Yes, I did notice slightly less power but the dual motor felt slightly more refined to me and very close in power on the low end.

If I were buying now, with the current options, I would go with a PDM or if I was planning to add a lot of options like PTC, Dynamic Roof, and Premium Audio I would go with a Tri.

I love my Gen1 Quad...but PDM provides a tremendous value and balance of performance and efficiency for R1.

A little preview ?

Yeah, I found the quad on my test drive to be traction limited at lower speeds on the 20" AT tires. Eventually you get up to speed and it will pull on the PDM, but it's not a runaway. The torque vectoring of the quad is superior to the dual in coming out of a corner, but it's still pretty good and better than my Model S was. I normally go for the fastest trim (I had a Model S P85D and a 2019 performance) but the PDM is a great fit for the truck on AT tires. The extra range is nice as well.

Great review -- I agree, I also went from ordering Quad Gen 1 to Tri Gen 2 and then back to Quad Gen 1 after some more test drives post-update!

I was lucky to do a back-to-back comparison with a PDM Max Gen 2 followed by a Quad Gen 1 and I have to say, I love the Bosch motor noise and feel like I have secured a gem after snatching a nice lease deal this late.

Took the DM for a 500 miles trip this weekend and it is definitely more efficient than the Quad R1s. Rivian software range estimation is about the same for both Quad and DM. (always underestimate by a lot). We stopped to charge at buc-ee in temple Texas and we charged to 230 miles . Distance to our home to dallas is 140 from that spot. When we input to the navigation system, it predicted we have 47 miles left but when we get home, it ended up with 78 miles.
We literally drive around 80 to 85 for a good 100 miles until get to the outskirt of dallas and reduced to around 70. Our total trip is about 2.45 kwh. We did the same trip last year on the R1s and got about 2.30 if I remembered correctly (in conserve mode).
