Yes, Tesla (not to be a hater) did not lobby for anybody but Tesla. They made many agreements that basically makes them the only direct sales company possible in many states.
I guess it was shrewd of them, but doesn’t really fit in with the whole “we need to change the world” so everybody should drive electric. More “thanks for letting us in, please slam the door so nobody else gets in.”
I was kinda hoping Rivian would pair with VW or Mazda (people who don’t sell pickups) to do service on Rivian vehicles in these protectionist states

Though I guess the R1S is competition for them.

From what I have gathered here and other places. NC is one of many states that banned direct to consumer vehicle sales. THis is common knowledge. However, Tesla was a first mover and established service centers in the state prior to this ban. In fact, the legislation in many states was IN RESPONSE TO Tesla. The current Tesla facilities are grandfathered but no more can be built.

Furthermore, 8 states, North Carolina being one, banned servicing any vehicles by a manufacturer that does not have a dealership license.

I can not explain the actions of Lucid.

My guess is that it is Rivians experience with servicing vehicles in areas just like Charlotte that are exactly what led to this “processing estimate” policy. They just don’t want to do it anymore.
I hear you (about possible legislation in place to prevent sales/service by direct-to-consumer companies).
However, the Rivian decision (to select Georgia instead of NC) was made in Feb/Mar. So, when they sent me the April email with a scheduled delivery of 1st half 2023, they already knew about the NC issues, if any, and ought to have been transparent enough to let me know. As a matter of fact, at ANY time, Rivian could've sent a notification to those of us that may be affected and provided us with guidance (cancel order, change address, let us know what restrictions, if any, might be placed on service, etc.). They didn't, rather, they had me sign a Purchase Agreement in August.
Whether or not Lucid was able to find a way to provide me with the sales and service I've (so far) required is relevant only in so far that Rivian folks could take a look and see what Lucid did to understand if it could apply to our (NC residents) situation. Then they could've communicated their findings and intentions; they didn't.

So, all I'm saying is that there is blame to go around for Rivian in that things could've been handled much better.

I'm done worrying about it, and hope that current R1T owners around here are able to get the service and support they require. For now, I'll file this under the "likely not going to happen" category and wait to see what other "story" I'll be fed in January.

Totally agree. Rivian has known about these difficulties for years and should have been MUCH better managing their customers expectations.

I am currently watching EV-6 reviews on YouTube. I think I will just keep my old tundra and go that route.

Just watched the newest video from R.S. interviewing Tony..He said 96% of pre-orders holders received a window..and those who didn't and received the "processing estimate", will get next update in January. Thats what I got yesterday with email stating due to service center an my location..so those of us who received that are in a 4% category!! SMH! :facepalm:
Thought that was interesting..

Also, just to top off the unsatisfying "update" yesterday, right after receiving it, about a mile from my house I PASSED A RIVIAN!! (2nd one I've seen in my area) COME ON MAN!

We do know there are R1Ts in Santa Fe. I’m sure you’ve seen some.
I’m hoping that Rivian hires enough mobile service that they feel ok adding more in state buyers.

yeah I've seen two, both launch editions I think, so I figured they were just early orders, but maybe not. I've heard there are more around. I wonder if those folks got them with NM addresses or if they took delivery elsewhere.

Early LE peeps got their R1Ts.

Over time I think Rivian decided the transport costs and service were too high till they got more settled.

I may be paying for a mailing address in Seattle or Colorado prior to Jan to get a sooner date. Wouldn’t mind flying over and driving back with my R1T

My father in law got a le r1t in June and we both live in Gallup, nm. They drove it up from Phoenix. Now I'm processing. We both ordered in Nov 2019.

Interesting. I’m in Albuquerque and I’m ‘processing’ too now. Ordered in Jan 2022. Have both R1T and R1S on order and both are processing.
