Simply put, with a year left on the lease, I don’t want to invest $450/tire on a truck I’m returning in a year. I have around 24k on the stock tires.
Live in NYC so we do experience some snow and go upstate so looking for economical’ish opinions

I have 5 months left, and just had to spend $1500 on new tires... Gonna burn these out as best I can!

get something popular, save the OEM tires and swap them back when it's time to return. sell the newer tires.

I’m in my first ever lease. I would think tire wear would fall under normal wear and tear. The leasing agent surely can’t expect a brand new vehicle after three years. Can someone who has been through a lease before explain what is expectation is upon turn in?

as long as there's no real damage, you're good. each dealer will be different but majority of the time they don't care unless you actually banged up the car. one time I turned in an audi a4 with a smashed fender and they didn't bat an eye, but I think only because I was getting into an s5 for my next lease.

technically a bank is supposed to come and check it out but they rarely do that, usually you just drop it off at the dealership and a sales person looks it over and you're outta there.

I think I recall some language in the return section of my lease terms where they do stipulate a minimum tread depth requirement, if memory serves, I believe my lease says 4/32 or 5/32. There is also a stipulation that states the tires must be same brand and model per axle. If you replace any tires during the lease, they do not have to be OEM brand however, they do require some level of matching. If you don’t meet these minimums, they are allowed to charge you for tire replacement costs.

I think these terms can also be found on the Rivian site under a section titled, what to expect when returning your leased vehicle.

Thanks for the pointer. I found the answer and other good info in Customer Support. Minimum is 4/32.

Look for used tires that are the same as the current tires. You maybe able to find some. Far cheaper then new tires. I’ve done this previous leased vehicles.

I'd do used OEM or similar tires from a Rivian in your area. I gave away a set of OEM tires that had plenty of tread left, when I switched them out for the Toyo's. They were noisy, but good enough for a lease return.

When I was looking for a spare tire, I googled the OEM tire and came up with lots of used, pretty cheap OEM tires online. Seems like most were from the Chicago area. Some had new levels of tread (9/32). I don’t know if these were irregular, but they are good enough for a spare or a lease turn in.
