We have a 6-bike Velocirax (https://www.velocirax.com/) unit for our Honda Pilot. It has no problem with clearance when our (full) hatch is open on the Pilot But I'm not sure yet how it will work for the split-hatch on the R1S. They do sell adaptors for the hitch to extend it out for truck-beds though: https://www.velocirax.com/product-page/hitch-adaptors

The nice thing is it comes with the mounting hardware to attach the rack to a wall when not in use so you can put your bikes on it. We have it mounted to our garage wall when not in use.

I have a 4-bike Kuat NV 2.0 attached to a Yakima backswing. It works, but it extends out quite far behind the truck. Clearance from the bumper without any added extender. When swung out, the tailgate can come down.

I went with the Hollywood Sport Rider for E-Bikes (as we have a couple of electric bikes). It is a bit heavy for some maybe but super strong and works well on the Rivian mount.

Look for a Thule T2 on craigslist. They are rock solid and can be had for cheap.

speaking of hitch mount bike racks with the R1S, can yalls post some pics? Im curious if the little tail gate will drop down w/o interference with rack or pedals. Can you just open the top enough to open the lower tailgate to grab gear? That would be preferable to having to use a backswing, or other swinging hitch mount.

Which swing away did you go with? I'm planning on the same Kuat rack soon and thinking the Yakima swing away has been mentioned here as working well.

Super duty 1up hitch mount. I use this for my 51lb e-MTB. Works well and is super stable. Under $500.

Kuat has a super slick version that’s way nicer to operate but is 3x the price.

I have a 1Up that I use on my Audi and will use on the Rivian when it comes. Love this rack, and you can add extra bike racks to it easily enough (if needed). That rack is sturdy while being quick and easy to mount the bikes: put the bikes on the tracks, and snap the holders over the wheels and you're done. No fussing with adjusting bars on your cross tube or anything else.

The rack easily installs in less than 5 minutes. All it takes is a proprietary antitheft allen wrench and then the locking pin and it's done.

I've heard that the Rivian receiver can be rather shallow and a long ways under the truck. This is easily fixed by adding a "hitch receiver extension" for about an additional $20.
