No more El Cap or Borealis Purple colors

Checked the R1T/R1S configuraror today - looks like Rivian ditched El Cap and Borealis Purple across the board.

The Borealis has been gone for a while now, the El Cap off the options is recent though.

Surprising about El Cap. Would only really make sense if there weren’t many takers. But I though this was a fairly popular color.

Borealis was a limited run, so not surprised there. El Cap might come back. Red Canyon was discontinued for like a month and I threw a very preemptive funeral for it. El Cap could also come back as a new shade of dark grey for the R2. I'm not worried. Once thing is certain, there will always be gray in your color choices for a new car.

Purple was limited release, but El Cap is a surprise given how nicely it matches the stock 20" all season wheels and how many I see on the road.

It was announced late last year that Red was being ditched, but I still see it listed today and there are many more El Caps on the road than reds.

It just seems so odd that it was so limited that they discontinued ordering it before any customer had received one! I'm sure some people wanted to see it in person before ordering. But nobody got that opportunity.

Limited edition products are quite frequently bought based on minimal marketing materials and faith.

Probably being replaced by the slate silver worn by R2 concept. Not surprising. Changing/updating paint options is a cheap and efficient way for any OEM to keep things fresh.

Do you think they're going to keep the LA Silver along with the new Silver seen on the R2?

They were in the wild for about a month while still available to order; first deliveries (in Seattle at least) were late December, and they were available to order through early February. But yeah, there's not very many out in the wild.

Rivian has been stocking Borealis R1S in the Shop periodically since it disappeared from the configurator. I got one from the Shop last month and it only took less than a week from deposit to delivery.

I had to bring my winter second set 20” AT Darks on a U-Haul trailer to change out the 22” Super Sports to drive home. 7-hour round trip.

I suppose that’s true. I have to remind myself sometimes that these colors have been around about 4 years now. Seems like just yesterday….
