In order to list what you fixed or broke, you have to know definitively what made it in to the sprint. You’d think this would be obvious but I doubt any PM on a project as complex as this is would be able to give you accurate info. Not excusing Rivian here, it’s just kind of common.
I think any good PM should know every item that was in the sprint - and could always confirm each work item with the dev leads before writing release notes. Basic software product management.

I think I would have to officially call this update bugged, and potentially unsafe.. At least for me.

  1. Driver+ will now just disengage at random on interstates where I have used it on many... MANY, times before. I get a warning for all of 1 second to "TAKE CONTROL NOW", and then it starts HARD braking. This almost caused me to get rear ended last night on my way home from work.
  2. Driver+ will disengage if I change lanes.
  3. At home, the at home setting for proximity acts as if I am anywhere else. Locks, unlocks, keeps waking up my truck. Had to listen to it all night last night, locking, unlocking, locking, etc. Edit: It also says my truck is always at home, even when MANY miles away.
  4. Blind spot cameras that come on with turn signals being activated sometimes dont show anything.
  5. Adaptive cruise seems to have gone backwards. It hard brakes because of the shadow of an overpass. This overpass is 30-40 feet above the road, so its not even in the sight line of the cameras. Again, this almost caused me to get rear ended on my way home last night.

While I will admit the stereo upgrades are amazing, and that after you perform a Soft/Hard reset, the efficiency meter doesnt reset.. This is all fine and dandy..

But the safety thing of the first items bother me, a lot!

Of course, for us Android users, the whole AppleMusic thing is another thing entirely, but I dont know if I can lay that on Rivians doorstep.

Edit: Just got off the phone with Rivian and reporting all these items, and they are going to send it to their engineering team post haste.

They might know what was supposed to be in the sprint but my money is on them not understanding all the dependencies and libraries that those items touch. It’s often why things break when something else is fixed and on a few occasions that I’ve seen it’s how new accidental features get introduced.

I haven't yet been notified by Rivian about this download and am an Android user, but after reading about the many problems with this latest download, think I will defer it even when it gets pushed my way.

I agree that dependency/reference changes are not always discussed with the PM depending on how technical they are (when I am in this role I look at every check in for a given item but that isn't common). These dependency changes would only be done as part of a work item where code was touched, and QA _should_ have asked for details and performed a low level regression for anything that used those changed dependencies. A dependency change would not make the public release notes, but it should be noted on the internal wiki for that release.

"accidental features" LOL

My navigation is not working after the update. It spools for a minute while calculating the route and then tells me I'm at the finish line, without ever starting up. My garage opener functionality is also acting up. I haven't even tried Apple Music yet.

I've had proximity locking off at home acting up as well. I cleared and re-established my "home" location, but it's still doing it. I've also had some weirdness with navigation where it kinda bugs out and reverts to the music screen if I switch to it and do anything else (tap something) too soon. It seems to need a few seconds (like 10-15) to "boot up" nav or something or it quits. I had the garage door issue, but a reboot solved that.

I was looking for a consolidated thread where these issues could be identified, solutions sought, and/or it could be brought to the attention of the Rivian employees lurking here (I'm convinced they're here). I'll send it up the chat line too for reporting purposes.

Edit: Chat was happy to listen to the issues I identified above, asked some questions about the behavior and situations where things happened, and said they'd pass it to the "right" team.

We’re having this issue and have tried a soft reset, hard reset, deleting and re-adding home location, disabling and re-enabling proximity locking and still bugging out. Sigh.

After my update installed the truck lost GPS position, it was locking at home, charging outside the preferred times, no garage opener button, etc. Then I noticed GPS position was flagged on the nav display. Had to do a soft reset.

I’ve read that others have had trouble getting WiFi to stay connected to their phone hotspot once in drive. I have the opposite problem. My truck stays connected to my home WiFi network even when I’m 30 miles from home…it obviously isn’t still connected but seems to think it is. None of the connected features work so I have to manually toggle the WiFi off.

One that's bugging me right now is playing music in Spotify. The truck sleeps and upon waking up the music starts "playing", but the volume is muted until I rotate the dial on the wheel even one click and then it jumps right back to where it was. Super weird and definitely didn't do that before...and I have reset the infotainment to no avail.

Also Apple Music doesn't remember that it was even playing music, so you start from square one every time you go into the app or come back to the vehicle.

Just to pile on, the feature to turn off switching the camera to forward when coming from reverse is completely borked. It just flat out doesn't work.

Before I got my Rivian these kinds of threads filled me with doom and gloom and while it is understandable everyone here is frustrated at their buggy update, I just wanted to add a data point and say that my R1S worked perfectly before the update, and it’s working perfectly after the update. Love this car.

I had most of the same issues after the update that others have reported here. A hard reset fixed most of the issues, but Apple Music is terrible. It seems to buffer randomly requiring a track restart to get it to play again and the volume is all over the place. I'm not even sure what's causing the erratic volume, but I've given up on it and have gone back to Spotify. With Apple Music I had to drive with my thumb on the volume control to constantly adjust it.
