I've nerded out on the Munro rolling chassis breakdown of the Rivian vs the Ford Lightning...

It's a little disconcerting to see some of the issues raised by tolerances that seem to be outside the scope of Best Practices, especially when compared to the Lightning.

Id be curious to see a Rivian response to some of the doubled up welds, and the lack of clearance for critical hydraulic lines that will be subject to movement and possible impingement between body and frame. Other points raised are around the architecture of the upper control arms and the bolts that bear the brunt of the suspension strain. These videos are generally pretty dry, but I found these two videos fascinating.

Thoughts?
Peace,
MJ

Take what these guys say with a grain of salt...they seem to shoot from the hip more than they should.

For example, on the Rivian, they seem to think the extruded aluminum bar that spans from near each spring/shock tower to the opposite side, is somehow a brace, when in reality I believe it is simply to mount other items. They had already removed a black steel piece that spans from each tower, and is bolted to each tower in several locations as well as top of each tower. I believe the black steel piece actually performs the task of bracing.

Totally fair points....I do think the welds are a function of human welds vs robotic, and I didnt realize that they had removed more than they indicated. It is still fascinating to see these 2 approaches to a similar problem side by side....
