Anyone else think the mirrors should auto unfold at like 8 mph instead of 18? I don’t unfold on unlock to make it is easier to back out of garage

Mine automatically unfold when I unlock the doors. Yours don't? Tbh I don't think it's legal to have the mirrors folded up when driving down the road...

Fold on lock and fold on unlock are both selectable options. I kept mine both turned off during the winter because they kept freezing in position and would eventually have damaged the motors.

sounds like you use them similar to the way i do.

i dont have mine auto fold/unfold on lock/unlock but i do fold them manually from time to time when in a tight parking spot. previously they would unfold as soon as i put the vehicle in drive or reverse. after the update 2023.26.00, my mirrors stopped unfolding automatically and i had to manually unfold them. i dont think i ever got to 18mph to see if they unfold because to me thats too much speed not to have the mirrors open.

I stopped using the folding mirrors the first time one was frozen "closed/folded" during a minor snow/ice storm. Just seems like a point of failure, where for me, folded in mirrors don't really gain much.

I wouldn’t mind a fold/unfold menu item added to top of center display (one that could also bind to Alexa command). Could be useful when off-roading.

I have to have my mirrors unfolded when backing out of the garage otherwise I most likely will hit the side of the garage door. I only have a few inches. I don’t get enough detail from the surround cameras.

I back INTO my garage, so I can pull *straight* out of my garage

Same.

In my neighborhood, it's actually not legal (against code) to back out into the public street. Not that anybody pays attention to that in this s*hole town. ??

Next update needs to include proximity folding mirrors. Just like Tesla, it would be GREAT if we could define a home location and have the mirrors auto-fold when arriving or leaving home. I would keep auto-folding mirrors off if this was the case.

I'd love it if we could define TWO home locations.

I've been backing into spaces since I was in college. It's just safer. And I feel better pulling out into anything (driveway, traffic, pedestrian areas, parking lots...) because I can see WAY better. And it's much quicker to leave that way too, in my experience.

I've actually gotten to the point where I have difficulty PULLING INTO a parking space. Notwithstanding, it's saved my front bumper and splitter countless times (previous vehicles obviously).

It's obviously easier to pull into a space with the Rivian's camera system, but...I'm still going to back in always :)

An Alexa command to fold or unfold the mirrors would be great. I fold them when pulling into my garage but don't want them to unfold automatically because it'd be tight pulling out.

They definitely unfold at something like 15-18 mph, which I hit while still in my subdivision. That works fine and I don't think is unsafe, but I would prefer a one-touch or voice command so I can do it more easily once I'm out of the garage but still in the driveway.

Backing into spots is, indeed, safer. However, it's significantly more difficult and time consuming. The number of people I see taking 3, 4, or even 5 attempts to get into a spot is insane. Even the worst drivers can pull forward into a spot decently with 1 or 2 tries at most. Backing out is usually more forgiving space-wise, so it's easier than backing in.

Disagree on all accounts.

Whether you pull in our pull out, it's a learned experience. You get out of it what you put into it--and as I'd mentioned, it's actually harder for me to pull straight in these days, due to my being accustomed to backing in. It's just like anything--muscle memory.

I don't know where you drive, but I'm going to avoid there like the plague. Most people I see backing in, like me, likely have done it consistently over a period of time and are plenty consistent. AT WORST, I might have to re-adjust and do a half pull back forward and then settle back in, but THAT'S SO MUCH BETTER and safer than halfway backing out to realize OH NO THERE'S A CAR COMING, and having to pull back into the space in a hurry.

Backing out is absolutely not more forgiving space-wise. I can't even fathom your thinking there. There's a reason when you parallel park that you BACK INTO THAT SPOT, AND PULL FORWARD OUT OF IT! :D
