Something that would have had people jumping for joy 2 days ago, now gets a big WOMP WOMP
Pretty wild to me. Between this and the delivery contacts that were everywhere yesterday, this could have been one of the most enthusiastic weeks around here in a while. Talk about a botched rollout.

It's really sad, the whole thing. So many of the people we've been discussing these vehicles with over the last few years are gone and announcements like this are basically, "who the fuck cares anymore?"

The price increase seems to be a Rivian cataclysm.

Very happy to see this. The 360 view was a must have for me. Though I really expected would be added as an OTA update eventually. Happy to see that happened sooner than I thought it could.

I still have reservations about the image quality itself after seeing it during the test drive. My hope is that something can still be done with that OTA. I suspect it could be a compression / bitrate limitation opposed to actual hardware. I can live with it now that we have 360, but still the weakest link in the Rivian IMO.

I've never had 360 view, so I have no context as to where it's useful. When I walk to my car at home I basically have to do a 270 degree walk around to get into the driver's side, and always behind the car.

What am i missing where I'd need a 360 view while in reverse (esp if I have cross traffic alerting and a back up camera). What makes this a "must have" for you?

Could be good for parking. Easier to fit into tight spaces.

Potentially for offroading for the same reason.

I could see that for parking for sure, makes total sense.

Off roading I think that could be interesting, but much more so if it was "on demand" and not just in reverse.

Thanks for the reply.

This - I use 360 for parking in garages in tight spaces. I use it when navigating tight trails or hairpins while offroading. Hell, even in normal parking situations it's a great way to make sure you're straight and evenly spaced between the lines so you don't have to try to squeeze out a 3 inch gap when someone parks too close to their line.

Ambosrivians on instagram just made a post showing the new surround view camera view when in reverse.

A very welcome improvement.

Well, that's a cool feature update. Worth a $15K upcharge for most folks? Nah, probably not.

Legit question. In the S1, Rivian stated they anticipated an additional $10k (or it could have been $12k, i can't remember) in revenue, post-purchase from each driver. That suggests they are planning on potentially charging a ton for each "additional" software-enabled option after the free membership expires. I am worried about this, especially after the $25k increase in price. Their comms has to do better or they are going to get whiplash on the market until they can hit sustainable production volumes and revenue. I haven't gotten any clear answer on what is included in membership and honestly I don't think the CS agents have been told either.
Yup, after the free trial period, right turns will be an added $25/mo "feature", otherwise only left turns will be allowed and you will be limited to 3 reverse maneuvers per month. This will also require the mandatory subscription to the yearly blinker fluid refill service.

I've had it in my last couple vehicles and it's a must-have, for me. Backing into parking spots is so much better with it. You see not only the back, but also the sides.

I currently just avoid taking my truck anywhere I would have to squeeze into a spot. Really limits things. So this will be nice, and hopefully the R1T has a better turning radius than the Ram :D
