Key Cards NOT Working (UPDATE - Fixed)

Short version: Gen1 R1S got a flat. Dropped it at Discount Tire over weekend with TWO key cards (just in case). Discount Tire is calling me now saying both cards will unlock the vehicle but cannot get the car in drive. Say they handle Rivians all the time, know how to do it, but just keep getting a message to hold card to door interior but that does nothing.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? What’s the troubleshooting to do? Without getting a ride out there and doing it myself with fob or phone I’m at a loss.

Worth trying a full reboot holding the left steering wheel button+hazard button until it reboots.

They told something similar. Went out to the car and they weren't pressing the brake at startup. I bet you if you go out there, it will work or at least walk them through it. Same thing happened to me.

If the interior door reader is actually dead, they get 60 seconds to put it into drive after unlocking from the exterior reader.

So If all else fails, they can exit, lock, unlock, and drive after closing the door.

Both of my cards are paired and neither have worked since I got the vehicle. I use my phone and fob, so it's not a big deal. Will get them to address it the next time I'm in the SC.

Got a ride down there. They were pressing the brake. I closed the door, locked it with the card, unlocked it, tried myself…VOILA!

Good to know for the future.

I would put in a service request. I had one card that wasn't working. They set up a mobile service, they pre-programmed a card, drove down, tried it and left. Very simple and about 5 minutes. Plus it was covered under warranty.

I had the same problem, SC discovered that the exterior card reader was DOA. This was replaced with a mobile appointment and they pushed an update to get the new reader working but it's still not being detected by the onboard computer—appointment in a couple of weeks to hopefully get that resolved.
