Launch green vehicles are going to roll off the line first.

I have no inside info. I'm just basing this on the fact it would be asinine to design and market a special edition color specifically for the first model to be built and then not put it on the first vehicles.

This color exists for the sole purpose of making the first edition of Rivian vehicles unique.

Releasing "launch green" later on would be like celebrating your birthday a month late. It loses some of the excitement.

Recent website changes Include the following:

https://rivian.com/support/article/how-does-delivery-work

Our Delivery Team is focused on creating a seamless and convenient experience that guides you from configuration to the first time you drive your Rivian — including delivering your vehicle directly to your home. Deliveries of the Launch Edition R1T begin in June 2021, with deliveries of the Launch Edition R1S beginning in August 2021. Canadian Launch Edition deliveries will begin in November 2021.

As production begins and we approach first deliveries we will be in touch to help you prepare for delivery based on your configuration, location and when you placed your preorder. At that time, you can complete any remaining steps to take delivery from your Rivian Account including finalizing your payment method and applying for financing, trading-in your current vehicle and completing any remaining documents. When it’s time to make your final payment, you’ll be able to do so directly in your Rivian app.

On delivery day you can track your vehicle’s journey through the Rivian app and upon arrival set it up as a digital key so you can immediately get on the road. To get better acquainted with your vehicle, you can ask a Rivian Delivery Specialist for a walkthrough or explore on your own time through a guided digital orientation.

We will offer home delivery as our primary experience for the most convenient and flexible experience. We’ll share additional delivery options that may be available, including factory pick-up, as we approach production and start accepting orders in early 2021.

I agree with you.

However, I'd like to point out there are examples of this asinine behavior in the automotive industry. For example, Jeep took deposits from people for a LAUNCH EDITION GLADIATOR. However, they delayed deliveries of the LE Gladiator by several months, so people who had already paid money and were arguably the most enthusiastic supporters got burned and more casual customers were able to walk onto Jeep dealer lots and buy Gladiators ad-hoc for several months before Jeep allocated production capacity for LE deliveries.

Hoovie from YouTube had a LE reservation and he has griped about that a few times.

I may be reading too much into it, but the wording here is more definitive than what I’ve noticed in the past. Historically, it’s been a lot of “deliveries are expected to begin...” or “anticipated to begin...” Those qualifiers are gone from the home delivery paragraph. “Deliveries of the Launch Edition R1T begin in June 2021....”

Of course, you can still find the old language on the site. So who knows. For example,
When can I take delivery?
In the United States, deliveries of the R1T Launch Edition are expected to begin in June 2021,

**One edit - I also just notice in the Configuration section of my account, it says " Deliveries for the Launch Edition R1T will begin in June 2021 with the Launch Edition R1S following in August 2021." My emphasis added, but seems like this wording is all over the place and it probably doesn't mean much. But at least I can hope.

With as little information as we have received from Rivian over the past couple of years, we may just as well read as much into it as we can. More fuel for our hopes!

It's incredibly frustrating. I just took a glance at the Hummer EV page to see what kind of information they're sharing on the truck which comes out significantly later than the Rivian is supposed to. My recommendation, don't make the same mistake. It'll make you curse out loud.

I learned 10x more details on the Hummer in a 2 minute review of the website than I have in 2 years following Rivian as close as is humanly possible.
-Detailed info and videos/pics of all the cool features? Check
-Detailed multiple views of paint and interior options? Check
-Close-up view of things like infotainment, underbody protection, back-seat folding, etc? Check
-How all the cameras are used and associated features? Check
-Detailed photos of almost every part of the interior and exterior? Check

UGH.

Well its all linked to be 100% honest. As I stated a while back I believe they are planning a major overhaul and push to from dev to production code all at the same time. Here is what has to happen when they start actually accepting orders and having people confirming sales.

  • Re-Do their entire website to accommodate app (Most likely HTML5 re-hash via app).
  • Launch a Rivian App Via Playstore/Apple App Store (embedded via website) where the app will just embed the actual website, its trivial but still something to do where the main work is in the website not the app it self.
  • Launch Guide Interface/Platform.
  • Launch Financial information platform (via chase/linking or embedding).
  • Launch Owners Center (part of app/website) to track vehicle progress etc
  • Implement Delivery Center part of app or as part of website

^^ all of this is just front end, not including any back end logistics. I have no idea when they will do all this as their Thursday cadence makes 0 sense to me, why not push all changes on Sunday in case they need to revert back but I am sure they have their reasons.

It is pretty cool you can add the light bars and change your tow hook colors. the roof is also nicely done.

Until now, nobody has raised the prospects for actual vehicle purchase pricing to rise (unlikely to drop) once they begin selling next month. From day one until now, all the pricing shown has "Estimated pricing" caveat. What's the likelihood of Rivian slapping a few more thousand dollars onto the base pricetag?

I’m actually more surprised we haven’t heard more about the RAN. I’m sure we will hear more about the vehicles “soon,” and it doesn’t take a ton of effort to put that information out prior to delivery.

However, at this point, we only know of one RAN DCFC in the works (Salida, CO). The permitting and construction of these chargers will likely take some time. It feels like we won’t have more than a dozen or so Rivian DCFC online by the end of 2021. I guess we have the pre-existing public CCS network that some vehicles are relying on exclusively. At this point, I just would expect a little bit more noise and chatter about local governments approving places for RAN stations.

They have job descriptions still open around the RAN/charging system project managers etc. Probably still a lot to do there. it will fall behind I'm sure so really bank on things like ElectrifyAmerica for a while.

I'm not saying it's easy. But, they've had years to plan and prepare and code and build apps and whatever else. Not to mention they got an additional 6-month reprieve after they pushed back the December launch. Just because it's complex doesn't seem like a good excuse. And, quite frankly, they could have provided many of the details people are seeking without major overhauls to the website. Hell, they could have emailed us all a pdf booklet with some detailed pictures and information and we'd have been elated.

Agreed but I will let them manage their own pace, right now they have promised almost nothing and we don't know whats around the corner. Wait and see I say :)
