Welcome to the forum. If you like the performance of your M3P, buy the G1 quad. Otherwise you'll think you are driving an MYLR when it comes to performance. My R1T is quicker than my M3LR w/boost and just a bit slower than my Highlander 3 performance and handles amazingly well for a truck.

I never thought I'd say a 7k pound vehicle was "tossable" but it is. Also the quad gives you all kinds of fun drive modes to play with. Not as much flexibility as track mode on my Plaid or Highland 3 performance, but a lot of fun when you put it in drift mode.
I’ve heard the performance of the Gen 1 quads are impressive. My 3P will be staying with me. I’ve outfitted some suspension goodies and love taking it on the BRP and Skyline Drive. Not really looking for anything quick. Just need something more capable of varying terrains. Even with a dedicated winter set, my low rise height hinders travel. My role in my company requires me to travel 140-200 miles daily so an EV has always made more sense. I am leaning more towards a Gen 1 quads vs a Gen 2 standard since I’ve heard the LFP performs poorly in cold weather.

Will you be driving the Rivian for most of those miles in the winter? If so, it will help if you have a 48 amp charging setup.

It isn't just about the acceleration I like, but the torque vectoring of the quads vs. the dual motor ones. If you are looking at G1's, I think the truck handles and rides better than the SUV. They did make some running changes on the suspension on both but the truck was far better dialed in and the SUV was more of an afterthought in that regard. The G2 saw a lot of improvement for the R1S but I still think the R1T is dialed in better.

Thanks! Good to know! The plans are to make the Rivian the new year round daily driver. My son will be getting his license at the end of summer so he’ll drive the 3P. I had a very quick and uninformative test drive at a local dealership but left with so many unanswered questions.

We have a Tesla wall connector so charging shouldn’t be an issue. Road trips a few times a year but usually level 2 home charging should be fine.

Sounds like a good plan. This is a great place to ask questions unless the can only be answered by a test drive. Also can be good to ask here, and test the answers out on the test drive. Can also be helpful to understand the drive modes before you go.

An example of this would be the sport mode on the quad is the only mode where you get full power off the line, but at higher speeds, all purpose is as fast, or can be faster, depending on battery level. Sort of weird quirks like that. Or conserve mode on the quad, turns it into a totally FWD vehicle and will not go to AWD, no matter how much you depress the throttle.

Hi, All,

First post on the forum, but been reading for a while. Lots of good info here.

I picked up my 2025 Gen 2 R1S Tri (Max pack) in late November and have been enjoying the new vehicle a lot. The Rivian is my first electric vehicle, and so far I haven't missed my old truck (Range Rover Sport) at all.

I live in the Houston, TX area, so a good mix of city and hwy driving, with some occasional light off-road use (beach, camping, etc.).

Looking forward to learning more about these awesome trucks on the forum.

My name is Tim and I am the proud new owner (Nov 2024) of Black Rivian RIT Tri. Coming from Volvo I am so please. Had a hybrid XC60 previously. Still own an XC40. This Truck is exactly what I was looking for. Mega Performance without having to lose tech, safety or quality of interior coming from Volvo. I had pre ordered the Volvo EX90 but cancelled to get the R1T. So glad to be here. Also, was hoping there was an app or something where I could plug in my current electric company KWH rate and have it show me how much I spend on each of my charges. Thought it was on the RIV app but does not look like it anymore anyway.

Sign up for Electrafi, the Rivian vesion of Teslafi. It will give you all the charging info you want as well as driving. I use it on 4 different vehicles. Here is my referral code if you want to use it. It will give you extra days on your free trial.

Welcome to the forum and to Rivian ownership!

The ChargePoint app will do what you're asking. It interfaces with ChargePoint home charger as well as the DC fast chargers in its network and provides a full breakdown of the costs. Of course, this means you'll need to buy and install one of their chargers. There are _many_ posts in this forum comparing the various home chargers that will help with the decision of which one to get (if any), if you don't have one already. (I'm happy with my ChargePoint. Others might have similar apps that provide similar info. I bought the ChargePoint because my local power company has a relationship with them that will be beneficial to me.)

Happy driving!

Thank you. Unfortunately, I already purchased an installed the Rivian charger and I guess they just don’t have that feature as of yet.

Hello everyone. I'm Mike and I live in West Texas. After drooling over the RS1 for years, I will be doing a demo drive in Austin this Friday with a goal of making a final choice and placing an order then. I have a few questions that I'd like to throw out if I may. These are mostly general-type questions for which key-word searches of this site haven't been all that helpful.

Being in a fairly remote part of a very large state, of course there is no showroom nearby. The nearest service centers are about 350 miles away in Dallas and Austin. Ive read lots of threads on this site and on reddit and am aware of the potential issues and service delays that may result from owning a Rivian so far from a service center. I'm not diminishing that risk---but I've owned several new cars that I purchased in Dallas with no local dealer where I've had to travel for warranty work. I have a second car that is available in the event I am without the Rivian for any periods of time. So, my first question is whether anyone has recent experience with the service centers in Dallas or Austin, including mobile service?

Aside from that, my plan is to test drive both the tri and dual motor versions. Am curious about people's opinions regarding these two options. More horsepower obviously, but any other differences? It appears the dual motor has higher mileage across the board. Are there reasons to choose the dual motors over tri? My plan is to go with the max battery regardless of the motor configuration. I see many more dual motor units in inventory which is a plus to me---once I decide to pull the trigger I'd rather not have to wait weeks for delivery.

90% of my driving will be local. My wife drives a BMW x5 which is great for our frequent road trips. But I would expect to take the RS1 on occasional trips of between 250-400 miles.

Any feedback or suggestions or things to consider would be appreciated. Thank you.

I use the service center in Dallas. My experience has been good other than the long wait times. Rather than writing a long reply a phone call might be better. Let me know if you want to connect and can give you more detail about the Dallas SC and my Rivian experience so far.

I am pretty sure the TRI is the only one that includes the new ASCEND trim which I feel makes the interior really stand out no matter what colors you choose. I have gotten a ton of compliments from people who have been in both my Dual Motor and Tri Motor. Also, the TRI will be the only one that has yellow brake calipers on the 2025. Qual will have Blue ones.

Picking up a 2025 R1S Tri-motor Max pack in Storm Blue, pretty much fully loaded, next Thursday. Everything finally aligned so I could get the R1S. I was an original reservation holder from 2021, but with the delay of launch, the timing didn’t work for us. Drove a Porsche Taycan 4S for 2-3 years and the wife drove an Audi Etron. I then decided to try a Tesla to see what all the hype was about. Bought a ‘23 M3 Performance. Loved the tech and the torque, but the interior was blah and I really wanted to get back into an SUV. Now, here we are.

I have been around on the forum for a few years, reading a lot. Looking forward to experiencing the R1S. I promise to change my avatar once I pick it up.
