If you want another data-point: Had my G1 quad R1T for 2 years, it’s been on a flatbed 2x (I live about 1.5 hrs from service center). I have a list of little things I’d like to have looked at the next time, but it’s been a joy to own/drive and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Last week I spent 6 hours driving to the Franklin service center and back home for a connector that wasn’t plugged in correctly from the factory, something that shouldn’t have happened. I’d still buy my new tri again without hesitation.

The telling thing here is even most of the people who had past issues would still make the same choice.

Been planning for months to order an R1T TRI when the lease on my Ford F150 Hybrid is over and now the time has come. Getting cold feet as I read some new posts with serious issues. Not afraid of some issues but am concerned with long down times. Really don’t have another desirable choice as I would like something smaller than the F150 so the Lightening and Sierra are less than ideal options. Some feedback from others who were feeling the same would be appreciated.
The thing is that most of us tend to be more vocal about our issues, what the % of issues vs not I really have no feel for it. I can say that the R1T is an amazing vehicle and I am thrilled with my purchase. Rivian continues to improve on every aspect and puts a tremendous amount of attention to every detail. If this vehicle fits your needs you will not find any other that can compare. I did a lot of research before buying and there is a leap of faith on a young company, but I have not regrets about my decision. I wish you the best with your decision!

My SC is within 2 miles of work and I'm dropping it off tomorrow to fix what will probably be a half shaft or motor issue in the rear when clutch engage or disengages. Drives fine, but the noise is clear something isn't right and when I drop it off I already have an Enterprise rental email from Rivian and they'll do there thing and then I'll bring the rental to the SC and pick up my car. No inconvenience, and a homemade Cake place is right by the SC so dessert to go.
So I have to update my note as my drop-off this morning was a no-go inconvenient mess. While dropping off, rep indicated last second (and I just spoke to them yesterday to confirm what I needed to do at drop-off) I need to drive a tech around to hear the read gear grinding noise. When I told them I didn't have time and need to get to work along with the fact I can't make it happen on demand they indicate they required it. Or I could make another appointment when I had time the earliest April 17th. I declined and wrote a note to the SC in the app and will see what they say.

In my mind, the Rivian experiment for me is just about over. Yes I can drive the car until the rear fails in some way and have it towed, but again gear grinding is neverr a good thing.

I do love the truck but its a truck and now it's taking work to get it serviced, the first time I've experienced this with any vehicle in 30+ years (I buy reliability above all else).

Got my Carvana quote and hitting Carmax over the weekend unless I can drop it off at the SC next week and get it fixed. To bad because it's great when it's great, but when it's bad it overrides the greatness by a huge margin.

@sssinc1 Unless your a very very patient person, I wouldn't do it.

One is usually well served by getting what you really want.

The problem with compromised decision is that at times it eats away at you. Over time one can regret making such a compromise.

An option is to pickup a lightly used gen 2 vehicle and if you don't like it or find it it has too many issues, get rid of it without having to have eaten the new vehicle depreciation.

Gen 2 Dual Max R1S owner for about 7 months. Highly recommend, but we did have a major issue when we picked it up. They took care of it and gave us a loaner while it was being fixed. They then brought the vehicle to us when it was ready so we didn't have to drive back to pick it up. We've only had one minor issue since then which was fixed in 30 minutes by mobile service in our driveway. (Passenger window not working, problem was a loose connector in the door.) Mobile service can fix most issues and they typically will give you a loaner or a rental if you need to drop it off for more major issues.

We live 5 hours from the nearest service center, so it was a bit of a leap of faith. Glad we did it though. It's the best vehicle we've ever owned by far.

Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, period.

Just shy of 6 months in with my Gen2 R1T Dual and had one incredibly tiny issue with the passenger door kissing the front panel. They got me into my SC while I was on a work trip with basically no inconvenience incurred.

I have a mobile appointment scheduled for next Friday to rotate my tires, which they’re doing for free because my registration took forever as the delivery guy (it was raining hard during my home delivery) apparently forgot a form and I had to get it notarized and mail it back.

6000 ish miles in. Love it. If I could make it work, I would trade our Model Y 7-seater for an R1S tomorrow.

People here say “Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, period.”

People on forums for other brands say “Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, period.”

Doesn’t really help…

But, you cannot possibly argue that you aren’t going into this eyes wide open. If you are near a not busy SC, I would go for it. Anything else and you will not get any sympathy here lol.

I enjoy the brutal honesty. Thanks, that’s my kind of answer

Depends on where. I’m in Maine, so I’m 4 hours from Chelsea, but Montreal may be closer for you. Mobile service covers northern New England and I’ve had not terrible wait times for it. I think they’re hiring more folks.

For minor things there is a local shop near me (burlington area) that has experience with rivians that i use for tire changes and balance and alignment. But as mentioned above, Montreal is a relatively short trip to the service center and is much less overwhelmed than boston.
