The Hummer is the only electric truck I didn't put a deposit on. It's not that I don't like Hummer, I love love the H1 Alphas, I just think of the Hummer as an SUV first. If they come back with the double swing rear doors with the tire on back for the SUV, I'll go in.

Funny if the Hummer guys think the R1T is wimpy. Rivian lMO looks more military-esk and doesn't seem wimpy beating the Hummer in a drag race ? Watts To Freedom is what the Hummer guys say when they lose.

I, for one, don't need my vehicle to be some manifestation of the endowment I wish I possessed. Plenty secure in that regard without needing to take up 3 city lanes.

People are so funny. Just because you like one thing doesn't mean everything else is awful.
To each their own. I don't think the Hummer is hideous or awful and I still have my Hummer EV reservation... I actually think the Hummer EV concept is pretty cool and resurrecting the brand with EVs is perfect. Some of the design elements are great -- removable roof, quad steering, all the trail cameras... But as is the typical Hummer way, the Hummer EV as a whole is an exercise in overkill. And there is nothing that current tech can do to warp the physical laws of our universe to change that it's an inefficient beast that sacrifices practicality and functionality for that Hummer aesthetic.

About $110k base MSRP
Gee. That makes it 200%+ markup! I think people need to make a mental note of these dealerships and make them pay dearly during "normal" and leaner times. If this is not price-gouging, what is?

Price gouging is doing that with a product that is deemed essential like food or water.

No one needs a Hummer. If anything buying a Hummer is a wasteful hoarding of limited resources (batteries). Anti-hoarding laws and price gouging laws go hand in hand. So making Hummer expensive and hard to obtain could be seen as a good thing from that perspective.

ps I really like the Hummer - if it had been priced similarly to Rivian, I might have ordered it instead. But I won't deny that it is a bit excessive. That is part of why I like it.

I guess price-gouging was a poor choice of term. It's definitely a ripoff, though!

There are dealers out there that aren't marking up their online reservations but you have to really look for them.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Mach e AWD and was a day 1 reservation holder. My order kept getting pushed back though and I ended up cancelling, but my dealership was going to honor Ford X-Plan pricing.

What I can't understand with these scumbag dealerships marking up orders by 50 or 100K is what do they think the net result of this behavior will be? Do they really think that even if they find a customer that will pay the markup that they will think highly, speak highly, or do business with that dealership again? If they cared about the long game, they would treat their customers fairly.

Especially when there is growing competition?? It's as if the dealerships see the writing on the wall and are just trying to cash grab while they are still in business.

I’m not trying to defend most of the dealer markups, but supposedly, at least for the Mach E, some dealers said they marked their test drive unit up exorbitantly so they had a unit for people to test drive. So you go to the dealer and could do a test drive, and then order at MSRP. Or pay $10-20k over and have it that day. Not sure if true, but some dealers said that in an article I’ve read. Of course, others feel a fool and his money are soon parted.
