When I use my truck at the beginning of the day I get the following ( see videos - volume up ) noise upon backing up. It usually will not do this again unless the truck has been idle for some time. The sound is pretty impressive from inside the cab. I have not messed around with this at all. Thought I’d reach out here prior to see if anyone else has experienced the same.

I should say that I did have a service center fix for the “tocking” at low speeds over the summer which did result in an improvement at that time.

Is it cold and wet? Almost sounds like ice on the parking break.

I'll listen more carefully next time I drove but I have a similar sound. I just assumed it was my pads breaking free from some salt based corrosion now that it's winter after sitting for a while.

Has it been wet recently?

My truck and my (manual) Mustang does this any time parking after getting wet.

It's the brakes corroding ever so slightly and bonding pads and rotors.

This doesn't happen much anymore because nobody drives manual and set their parking brakes. But since the Rivian doesn't have a parking pawl and instead sets the parking brakes... You'll get this a lot. It's not hurting anything.

Drive forward first instead. Then it'll be silent when reversing.

It's the brake pads unsticking. Normal noise unfortunately.

ah one thing I just noticed, yours is the second you start moving. Mine was after about 5-10 feet or as I started turning the wheel while backing out, so disregard my note above.

It's the parking brakes unsticking from the rotors.

Mine does the same. Usually only when I first leave the garage in the morning after sitting overnight. I always assumed it was the brake pads letting go of the rotors.

I don't reverse out with the T but we do with the S. Our S does it and the S loaner we had did it really loud. Sounded like axle was breaking in two.... But it drove normally.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I agree it sounds pretty impressive, hence my post here. Thank you for the reassurance.

You all rock!!
