I may take a few trips over summer and I've noticed many hotels with Tesla L2 Destination chargers only. I can buy the adaptor. How do these Tesla chargers work? Do I need an account to use them? I see some of them in the Tesla app, but they show as private and no indication that I can use them.

Any recommendation on the adaptors (Tesla tap, Lectron, etc?) that worked well?
This one below looks interesting, can be locked to the port as well so it doesn't walk away.

Go with Lectron. Make certain you buy the higher amp version so you dont have challenges with amperage. Been using mine at home on Tesla charger for three months with no problem. Last word, go with adaptor with solid warranty

I use the lectron 48A adapter for charging and it works great.
Most of the Tesla destination chargers are free. Just plug in with the adapter and it will start in 10 seconds.

I definitely feel the Tesla Tap is a better product. UL Rated, more solid design. Anecdotally I’ve heard less issues with Tesla Tap than Lectron users.

Lectron 48A has been flawless for me.

Also happily use the Lectron 48A, though I can't recall what my max amperage has actually been. Its handy to have on hand for when you get to a hotel and they have 3 tesla chargers and one j1772. Often the tesla has a slightly higher charge rate too.

There's nothing wrong with the Tesla Tap, but also nothing about it which justifies paying fully twice as much as the Lectron. Both work. I have the Lectron (which has worked flawlessly) and an extra $150 in my pocket ...

I agree Tesla Tap it better constructed, but I have never had overheating or other issues on my Lectron, and I have had regular success with Tesla destination chargers at hotels for my many trips when there is an overnight stay and my R1S fully charges by the next morning. I haven't used the Lectron for anything other than a Telsa destination charger.

Thanks all for the replies, has been very helpful and I've just ordered a 60A one last night. It's not tesla tap,.. I need to budget spending on other necessary accessories (tint, tint, tint, roof shade, mats, etc). I'll try it out and return if any issues with overheating. Also, since I can dial down the current, I think can workaround overheating issue if I get into trouble with a particular charger (ie. poor mating connection with worn out Tesla charger plug).
